Two powertrain worlds are on offer. The 1.2-litre turbocharged three-cylinder with 48-volt mild-hybrid assistance and a dual-clutch gearbox produces roughly 100 to 107 kW of system output depending on model year and drivetrain, available with front-wheel drive or, since early 2025, with an electrically driven rear axle as a genuine all-wheel-drive model. The combustion engine itself is considered robust, though known design weaknesses of this engine family, such as the wet timing belt, apply here too and should be checked via belt-replacement records when buying used. More relevant to the Junior specifically is that the dual-clutch transmission on some early cars can drop into a software-related limp mode — usually fixable with a control unit update, but worth checking on a test drive and in the service book.
The Elettrica electric version produces 115 kW from a 54 kWh battery (51 kWh usable) and feels rather leisurely at around 9 seconds to 100 km/h, while the range-topping Veloce with 207 kW, a mechanical Torsen limited-slip differential and lowered suspension genuinely delivers the driving fun an Alfa should. The flip side: maximum DC charging power of 100 kW is modest for a car in this price bracket, real-world range falls noticeably short of the official figure, and especially in Veloce trim the taut yet still roll-prone suspension is uncomfortable on rough roads.
Build quality and material choice are a recurring criticism: visible surfaces feel upmarket, but lower trim panels and door cards use basic hard plastic that does not quite match the brand's aspirations. On top of that come no fewer than five recalls within the first two model years — ranging from harmless software updates for the matrix headlights and lane-keeping assist to two safety-relevant fire-risk recalls (a leaking fuel line and water ingress at the 48-volt starter generator). Buying used, it is worth checking the KBA recall register and confirming that all recall work has actually been carried out.
For daily use, the base front-wheel-drive hybrid is the most sensible choice — technically unremarkable and efficient. Anyone who genuinely needs all-wheel-drive capability should opt for the Q4 version. On the electric side, the premium for the Veloce only pays off for buyers who value driving dynamics over range and charging comfort — for pure commuting, the base version is entirely sufficient.

This top-of-range version uses a completely newly developed permanently excited synchronous motor, combined for the first time in a fully electric vehicle with a mechanical Torsen limited-slip differential. Torque distribution between the front wheels happens purely mechanically, without the intervention typical of electronic systems, delivering clean traction without wheel spin through fast corners. The considerably higher continuous output places greater demands on the cooling system for the motor, inverter and battery than the base version, so active thermal management matters more during spirited driving and repeated fast DC charging sessions. Charging power is technically capped and lags behind current competitors, which means noticeably longer stops during frequent fast charging. Wear-wise, the drivetrain differs little from the base version — the added mechanical limited-slip differential is considered robust and low-maintenance.
