The Citroën C5 Aircross (from 2018) is Citroën's answer to the Tiguan, Tucson, and Qashqai — a compact SUV on the EMP2 platform with the typically French approach: comfort over sportiness. Progressive Hydraulic Cushions (PHC) in the suspension, soft seats, and an interior that is more living room than race track.
Engine choice: The EB2-DTS (1.2L PureTech 130, 96 kW) is the best-selling petrol — and brings the wet-belt risk. Timing belt in an oil bath, replacement recommended every 80,000 km / 5 years, preventive 700–800 €, engine damage 5,000–8,000 €. The EP6-THP (1.6L Turbo, 133 kW) in the PureTech 180 has more power but the known timing chain problems (stretch, oil consumption, thermostat). Both petrols are only available with EAT8 automatic in the higher-power version — the 130 hp version is also offered with a 6-speed manual.
The DV5 (1.5 BlueHDi, 96 kW) is the most sensible drivetrain: no wet belt, proven common-rail technology, economical (5–6 L/100 km). The DW10-BlueHDi180 (2.0L, 132 kW) brings significantly more composure — recommended for high-mileage drivers and towing. The PHEV version (1.6 THP + electric motor, 165 kW) offers electric city driving, but: recall for battery fire risk on certain batches. Always check the recall status.
The EAT6/EAT8 gearbox occasionally shows rough shifts — especially the EAT6 in early models (2018–2019). Software updates help but the issue is not resolved on all examples. The BCM (Body Control Module, successor to the BSI) can cause software problems: start-stop system failure, error messages without cause.

Stronger 130 hp variant (96 kW) of the 1.5 BlueHDi with strong mid-range pull and high efficiency. Often paired with the EAT8 automatic, positioned as a replacement for the older 2.0 HDi. Shares the camshaft chain issue of the DV5-100 — the narrow 7 mm chain can stretch prematurely. The Stellantis warranty extension applies here as well.
