Successor to the FA20D in the BRZ ZD8 — more displacement, more torque, torque dip eliminated. Oil pickup screen five times larger than the FA20D, but excess factory RTV sealant can clog it. Solid for street use, caution on track regarding oil supply. Too early for long-term data.

  FA24D has no hydraulic lifters — valve clearance must be mechanically checked and shimmed when out of spec. Not a frequent problem, but a scheduled maintenance item at higher mileage.
