The Renault Kangoo III (Type RFK, since 2021) is a clear step forward from its predecessor - material quality and build feel surprisingly upscale in tests for a high-roof estate with clear commercial-vehicle roots, the cockpit is more modern and the safety equipment up to date. Technically, the Kangoo III shares its platform with the Mercedes Citan and Nissan Townstar, which can mean wider parts availability but also that electronic teething troubles can affect all three sister models alike.
For engines, buyers can choose between the TCe 100 and TCe 130 petrols and the Blue dCi 95 and Blue dCi 115 diesels. The TCe 100 feels underpowered for the vehicle's weight and should only be considered for light use without much load, while the TCe 130 offers noticeably more reserves. Among the diesels, the predecessor engine family already proved robust in a durability test, and the Blue dCi 115 brings enough power for a full load and trailer towing. A dual-clutch automatic is available and shifts briskly, but like all EDC gearboxes needs regular maintenance.
Concrete weak points so far show up mainly in the electronics: the Easy Link infotainment system freezes or restarts unexpectedly on some vehicles, occasionally requiring a full control unit replacement. A few owners report recurring electronic issues such as non-functioning windows or emergency braking triggering without cause, needing several workshop visits to trace. The 12V battery can drain after just a few days of standing because opening a door automatically wakes the infotainment and lighting - a known issue especially for infrequently used cars such as campers or second vehicles. As with the previous generations, water can also enter the cabin through leaking seals or blocked drains.
Two recalls affect the Kangoo III so far: one concerning possible head injuries from protruding stop parts on the rear swing doors on vehicles with barn-style rear doors, and another for an incorrectly flanged Isofix passenger seat frame on some 2023 model-year cars. Both points should be checked via the VIN when buying used.
The electric E-Tech Electric with a 45 kWh battery and 22 kW AC plus optional fast charging is well equipped for an electric high-roof estate and, thanks to its heat pump, more usable in winter than the old Z.E. generation, but with a realistic range under 250 kilometres at motorway speed it clearly remains a local and urban vehicle. Overall, the still-young Kangoo III has so far proven solid, but the infotainment and electronics issues warrant a thorough test drive of every function before buying.

The drivetrain uses a permanent-magnet synchronous motor with a reduction gearbox – proven, low-maintenance technology with no clutch or multi-speed transmission. The charging electronics support AC charging as standard at a limited rate, with a higher optional AC rate and DC fast charging available, making the drivetrain noticeably more usable day to day than the model line's earlier electric generations.
