Lincoln Grand Touring
The 2.5L Atkinson-cycle engine in the Corsair Grand Touring is a naturally aspirated hybrid motor without a turbocharger — it runs the Atkinson cycle for efficiency and relies on electric assist for performance. No belt drive (chain cam). The LG Energy Solution high-voltage battery pack was subject to a fire recall due to folded anode tabs; replacement packs are now in the field. Regenerative braking can feel unusual in cold weather.
PHEV: Quiet in Town, Enough for the Highway
The Grand Touring PHEV commutes comfortably between electric mode (up to ~25 miles) and hybrid mode. The engine stays in the background when charged. After the HV battery recall and replacement, a solid option for predominantly urban use.
Engine Weaknesses 3
LG Energy Solution lithium-ion cells can short-circuit and catch fire. Ford advised owners not to charge. Replacement packs available. Affects 2021–2024 Corsair Grand Touring PHEV.
Symptoms: No driver warning — fire risk occurs during or after charging.
The PHEV control module can send the entire vehicle into a non-recoverable deep sleep while driving. The 12V battery fully drains as a result. RACM software update resolves the issue.
Symptoms: All vehicle systems cut off mid-drive, vehicle cannot be restarted without jump start.
In the MKZ Hybrid, parasitic loads from telematics modules, welcome LEDs, or liftgate modules drain the 12V battery. Multiple battery replacements within a short period are documented.
Symptoms: Vehicle won't start after short time parked, multiple jump-start incidents, no obvious cause found by dealer.
Vehicle Weaknesses 5
Insufficient lubrication in the rear drive unit (RDU) on AWD Corsairs can cause wear or seizure. Ford adds lubricant at the dealer; all 2021 AWD Corsairs should be checked.
Well-documented transmission shudder among Corsair owners. TSB 25-2154 (PCM reflash) fixes the majority of cases; severe cases need torque converter or transmission rebuild.
Rear brake pads and rotors wear significantly faster than fronts. Suspected cause: electronic parking brake not fully releasing. Typically noticed around 35,000–50,000 km.
Drain tubes clog and guide rails are sometimes incorrectly installed at the factory — resulting in water ingress and rattle noises. 2020 models most affected.
Four separate recall campaigns were launched for the 2020 Corsair rearview camera. Software updates and hardware corrections were applied.
