Seat Alhambra
135 kW EA288 in the Alhambra 7N facelift (184 hp). EGR valve can fail; watch DSG clutch wear when towing. Powerful long-distance diesel for the large van.
Most powerful Alhambra diesel
With 135 kW the Alhambra 7N in its most powerful diesel version is equipped for every situation. Fully-loaded trips across Europe proceed without stress, and consumption remains acceptable for the class. A good investment for families who travel frequently.
Engine Weaknesses 2
The CUWA (184 PS, most powerful Alhambra 7N FL diesel) also shows the EA288 EGR problem. Towing and full van loading put extra stress on the EGR system.
Symptoms: Rough idle, fault code P0401, power loss, black exhaust under load
The DSG in the Alhambra with CUWA suffers especially from towing and heavy loading. Clutch overheating in traffic jams or on gradients is possible. Change gearbox oil every 60,000 km.
Symptoms: Juddering when pulling away with a trailer, gearbox shifts late or roughly, DSG temperature warning
Vehicle Weaknesses 8
The DSG mechatronic unit in the Alhambra 7N can fail from around 120,000 km. Pressure regulator solenoid short circuits prevent clean gear changes. Mechatronic repair costs approximately €450 net; a new unit is €1,200–1,500 plus labour.
The front axle components of the Alhambra 7N wear above average. Joints, sway bar links, bushings, and springs are regularly affected.
The electric sliding doors of the 7N can jam due to motor wear or wiring loom defects.
The AC compressor and HVAC actuator motors fail on the Alhambra 7N. Condensers can be damaged by stone chips.
The high vehicle weight of the Alhambra 7N causes increased brake disc and pad wear.
The EGR valve on Alhambra 7N TDI engines clogs with carbon deposits. After the diesel scandal software update, the valve cycles up to three times more often, accelerating wear. Specialists report near-universal failure on certain engine variants by around 80,000 km.
Despite modern manufacturing, some Alhambra 7N examples show rust on the tailgate and door sills.
The start-stop AGM battery in the Alhambra 7N degrades after approximately 5–7 years. The start-stop system disabling itself permanently is usually the first symptom.
Reports & Tests
The heavy family van significantly exceeds segment averages at the roadworthiness inspection: the coil springs are too weak for the vehicle weight and show early wear, and brake discs are also flagged more frequently than average. Buyers of older examples should budget for suspension repairs.
