DLZB 3.0L V6 Turbo 354 hp Automatic All-wheel drive SUV 2018–2021
βœ– Stay Away!
Engine DLZB βœ– Stay Away! 25,350–76,700 €

Dual-motor variant of the Macan EV with AWD β€” 470 kW system output in the Turbo variant. Considerably faster than the rear-drive base motor, and that's clearly noticeable in direct comparison: acceleration is at a level you don't expect from SUVs. Technically the more complex variant with more EV components, but Porsche has developed the EV architecture solidly. Anyone wanting a sporty Macan with maximum performance is right here β€” but pays a significant premium over the entry EV.

Fun Factor? Fun to Drive!

Macan S FL β€” refined and faster

The facelift Macan S gets the new 2.9 biturbo V6 instead of the old 3.0: more refined, more rev-happy, more efficient. The suspension was sharpened, the PDK more finely tuned. On twisty country roads a match for the GLC AMG at significantly lower weight. The best choice among compact SUVs for the sporty SUV driver.

Engine Weaknesses 9

!! Transfer case (PTM) failure from water ingress

Water enters transfer case oil, causing wear and failure. Affects 2015–2021 Macans. Revised multiple times since March 2018.

Symptoms: Shudder when pulling away in 1st/2nd gear, vibrations at 60–110 km/h, drivetrain warning light

2,500–7,500 € from 50,000 km
!! Cylinder bore scoring

V6 engines prone to bore scoring from 60,000–80,000 km. Engine replacement or rebuild often exceeds 50% of vehicle value.

Symptoms: Ticking noise on cold start, increased oil consumption, rough idle, blue smoke

8,000–25,000 € from 75,000 km
!! Timing cover oil leak

Aluminium bolts on the timing cover fracture from vibration. Less common on the 2.9T than the predecessor 3.0T due to revised fastening.

Symptoms: Slow oil loss at front of engine, oil stains on exhaust components

5,000–9,000 € from 80,000 km
!! Timing chain rattle from 150,000 km

VAG 3.0 TDI timing chain stretches from 150,000 km. Engine must be completely removed β€” most labour-intensive repair on the vehicle.

Symptoms: Rattle on cold start (first 1–2 seconds), camshaft sensor fault code

3,500–6,000 € from 160,000 km
!! Coolant pipe under intake bridge bursts

The FL 3.0T V6 also has the known plastic coolant pipe issue under the intake bridge. Not fundamentally improved despite revised materials.

Symptoms: Sudden coolant loss, overheating, coolant warning light.

800–1,800 € from 80,000 km
!! PCV hose leak EA839

The EA839 PCV breather hose is prone to failure due to internal check valves. When it fails, hot oil on turbo components can cause fires. Audi TSB from 2020 known.

Symptoms: Oil mist in engine bay, oil loss, in extreme cases burning smell or visible smoke.

200–600 € from 60,000 km
! EGR valve and swirl flap coking

EGR valve cokes up due to high soot content. Swirl flaps in the intake manifold also affected and can damage the engine through particle breakage.

Symptoms: Hesitation when pulling away, power loss, black smoke, EGR fault code

300–1,200 € from 100,000 km
! Intake valve carbon buildup

The FL 3.0T V6 remains a pure direct injector β€” intake valves coke up from oil recirculation. Cleaning every 60,000–80,000 km recommended.

Symptoms: Rough idle, power loss, increased fuel consumption.

500–1,000 € from 70,000 km
! Ignition coil failure V6 FL

Heat-related ignition coil failures also occur on the FL 3.0T V6. Single failure indicates overall ageing β€” complete replacement recommended.

Symptoms: Misfires, rough running, check engine light.

300–700 € from 90,000 km

Vehicle Weaknesses 8

!! Gearbox Transfer case faulty

Transfer case (PTM) fails due to water ingress into the gear oil. Revised several times, but still documented on 2014-2021 models.

2,000–8,000 € from 60,000 km
!! Gearbox PDK shudders on pull-away

PDK dual-clutch gearbox shudders on pull-away and manoeuvring. Gearbox oil change and software update can help; clutch replacement sometimes needed.

500–5,000 € from 50,000 km
!! Rust Rust on rear axle subframe

Rear axle subframe develops surface rust after 8-10 years with year-round use. May require replacement of the entire subframe.

500–3,000 € from 100,000 km
!! HVAC A/C pressure line splits

A/C refrigerant line splits in the engine bay. Complete refrigerant loss, section of pipe rattles.

400–1,500 € from 60,000 km
!! Electronics Alternator causes battery problems

Alternator voltage regulator fault or short circuit causes charging problems. Fuse F30 blows repeatedly.

300–2,500 € from 80,000 km
! Suspension Wheel bearings wear prematurely

Macan wheel bearings wear prematurely with spirited use and poor roads. Rear axle particularly affected.

150–600 € from 80,000 km
! Brakes Premature brake wear

Macan brake pads and discs wear faster than on lighter Porsche models due to the high vehicle weight.

400–1,800 € from 30,000 km
! Steering Drivetrain cracking at full lock

When turning to full lock combined with braking, the drivetrain produces an audible crack. Porsche describes it as design-inherent load relief.

0–1,500 € from 30,000 km
