CVVA 3.0L V6 TDI 262 hp Automatic All-wheel drive SUV 2014–2017
– Be Careful
Engine CVVA – Be Careful 14,400–53,700 €

The 3.0L V6 TDI biturbo in the revised version for the Cayenne 92A facelift — technically similar to the predecessor, with slightly more power. A long-distance touring vehicle with good efficiency, typical diesel torque feel. For those using the Cayenne primarily for motorway long-distance, this is the most economical engine choice. DPF and EGR are the expected maintenance items.

Fun Factor? Decent

Diesel Cayenne facelift

V6 TDI facelift with 262 hp — more power than the predecessor, same diesel character. The sensible choice for the long-distance-oriented Cayenne driver. Not a sport SUV, but a practical vehicle.

Engine Weaknesses 8

!! Camshaft adjuster bolts shear

Aluminium bolts in camshaft adjusters can shear. Camshaft stops, pistons hit valves — total engine damage. No official recall in Germany.

Symptoms: Engine jerks and dies suddenly, multiple fault codes simultaneously, camshaft no longer turns

5,000–18,000 € from 60,000 km
!! Timing chain stretches

CVVA is the facelift update of the CRC — shares the same timing chain weakness. Timing chain rattles after long standstill or cold start. DPF regeneration heat cycles contaminate chain tensioner oil.

Symptoms: Metallic clatter on cold start, disappears after warm-up, code P0016 in fault memory

2,000–6,000 € from 150,000 km
!! Timing chain elongation

V6 TDI timing chain can elongate at high mileage. Regular inspection recommended from 150,000 km.

Symptoms: Chain rattle on cold start, rough running, fault codes

2,500–5,000 € from 160,000 km
!! EGR valve clogged

Like all Cayenne diesels, the EGR valve clogs with soot deposits under part-load conditions. The intake manifold also gets blocked — combined cleaning makes sense.

Symptoms: Power loss, hesitation, black smoke under load, engine warning light

300–1,000 € from 100,000 km
!! DPF clogged

Like the CRC predecessor, the CVVA shows DPF clogging with short-trip use. High soot ingestion also accelerates chain tensioner wear — the two issues are linked.

Symptoms: DPF warning light, power loss, increased fuel consumption, code P246300

800–4,000 € from 120,000 km
!! Injector seals leaking

CVVA shares injector design with the CRC and VAG TDI modular platform. Seal failure presents with a characteristic hiss and diesel smell.

Symptoms: Ticking/hissing from engine bay, diesel smell inside cabin, cylinder imbalance fault codes

600–4,000 € from 130,000 km
! EGR valve coked up

EGR valve cokes up with short-trip driving. Power loss and increased emissions.

Symptoms: Power loss, black smoke, check engine light

500–1,200 € from 80,000 km
! Intake valve carbon buildup (direct injection)

The CVVA as a V8 direct injection engine suffers from intake valve carbon buildup. Deposits reduce airflow and volumetric efficiency.

Symptoms: Power loss in the upper rev range, rougher cold start behaviour

400–1,000 € from 80,000 km

Vehicle Weaknesses 6

!! Steering Power steering drops out at full lock

When turning to full lock, power steering assistance drops out briefly several times. Power steering pump overloaded or valve block faulty.

400–1,500 € from 80,000 km
!! Suspension Air suspension: sensor and compressor failures

Level sensors and air suspension compressor fail through wear. Improved over the 955, but still a cost factor.

500–3,000 € from 100,000 km
!! Body Sunroof water ingress damages sound system

Blocked sunroof drains lead to water ingress. If the Bose sound system is fitted, the subwoofer in the boot can be damaged.

200–2,000 € from 60,000 km
!! Gearbox PDK and all-wheel drive: oil losses

PDK gearbox and transfer case develop leaks. Oil loss at seals and shaft seals requires regular monitoring.

500–3,000 € from 80,000 km
!! Rust Rust at the door fold on rear doors

Rear doors develop rust at the door fold, often only 3-5 years after first registration. Porsche acknowledged the defects under warranty.

500–2,500 € from 60,000 km
! HVAC Climate control regulates wrong temperature

Climate control heats to maximum when A/C is switched off. Temperature sensor delivers invalid values. No fault codes stored.

200–1,500 € from 80,000 km
