Nissan Qashqai

K9K 1.5L 110 hp Manual Front-wheel drive 2010–2014
– Be Careful
Engine K9K – Be Careful 3,940–11,400 €

Renault-Nissan 1.5 dCi diesel engine — fitted in millions of vehicles. Fundamentally solid, but EGR valve and injectors are weak points.

Fun Factor? Not Really

Diesel duty done

110 hp diesel — low running costs, low fun level.

Engine Weaknesses 6

!! High-pressure pump metal contamination — total fuel system failure

The K9K high-pressure pump can generate metal swarf that contaminates the entire fuel system. Pump, all four injectors, fuel lines, and tank must all be replaced.

Symptoms: Engine failure, starting difficulties, black smoke, metal particles visible in fuel filter.

2,000–5,000 € from 150,000 km
!! Timing belt breaks prematurely — injection pump

The K9K timing belt can break prematurely if the injection pump is not correctly aligned. Misalignment causes the belt to fray at the edge and snap well before the replacement interval. Engine damage as it is an interference engine.

Symptoms: Belt noise, visible edge wear on timing belt, sudden engine shutdown

400–600 € from 130,000 km
!! EGR valve clogged with soot

The K9K EGR valve clogs with soot deposits, especially during frequent short-trip driving. A stuck valve causes power loss and increased consumption.

Symptoms: Power loss, rough running, increased fuel consumption, check engine light with EGR fault code.

150–600 € from 80,000 km
!! Diesel particulate filter clogs with short-trip driving

The K9K DPF does not regenerate sufficiently during frequent short-trip driving and clogs up. First problems often arise between 50,000 and 80,000 km.

Symptoms: DPF warning light, power loss, black smoke, regeneration cycles fail, vehicle enters limp mode.

600–2,000 € from 70,000 km
! Charge air hose splits

The K9K charge air hose splits frequently, especially on older build years (FE0C version). Newer FE1C versions are more robust. The hose often tears at clamps or pinch points.

Symptoms: Sudden severe power loss, hissing noise under load, increased fuel consumption, check engine light.

50–200 € from 80,000 km
! Camshaft sensor fails repeatedly

The K9K camshaft sensor fails repeatedly from around 100,000 km. Sporadic starting problems and rough running are the result. Aftermarket sensors often last only a short time.

Symptoms: Sporadic starting problems, engine misfires, check engine light, occasional stalling

40–150 € from 100,000 km

Vehicle Weaknesses 5

!! Suspension Suspension joints worn prematurely

Tie rod ends and control arms wear above average on the Qashqai J10 facelift, just as on the pre-facelift. MOT testers flag these components regularly, especially from 80,000 km onwards.

200–550 € from 85,000 km
!! Rust Rust in door flanges and underbody

Corrosion occurs particularly in the door shut faces beneath the door seals. On some production runs of the J10 facelift, factory sealing of the door hem flanges was missed, leading to early rust.

300–1,500 € from 70,000 km
! Brakes Brake discs worn prematurely

Brake discs and brake pads on the Qashqai J10 FL wear faster than on comparable vehicles. The MOT notes this regularly, especially on vehicles over 80,000 km.

150–400 € from 60,000 km
! Electronics Lighting failures common

Headlights, indicators and tail lights fail on the J10 facelift at an above-average rate. Defective bulbs and corroded sockets are common on older examples.

50–250 € from 80,000 km
i Interior Interior rattles and trim noise

With age, door cards, dashboard and centre console develop rattles. Hard plastic quality is low and connections loosen over time.

0–150 € from 70,000 km
