204 hp in the new Niro — pleasantly quiet and direct. Well balanced for a family electric car, nothing out of the ordinary.
Vehicle Weaknesses 7
Multiple Niro SG2 owners report a complete infotainment system failure. The cause is either a blown fuse (module 2, 10A) or a faulty AVN unit requiring replacement at approximately €1,857.
On some Niro SG2 EV models, the charging plug doesn't latch securely. At HPC fast-charge stations the plug must be inserted with slight pressure. In individual cases the charge port cover or actuator needed replacement.
Niro SG2 drivers who brake primarily using the recuperation paddles rarely use the mechanical rear brakes. The discs then rust heavily, leading to squealing, banging and increased wear.
Several SG2 owners report that cold air comes from the vents when the temperature is manually set to 20–21°C. The automatic climate control takes a very long time to deliver warm air, which is particularly annoying in winter.
From around 75,000 km, drivers report creaking or clicking from the front axle area. In quiet EV operation, the noise is particularly noticeable. The cause is usually hardened rubber seals on the shock absorbers.
On the Niro SG2, a slight notch in the steering at the neutral position has been reported — multiple forum members confirm the same phenomenon. The issue occurs regardless of LKAS activation.
On the Niro EV SG2, it is reported that the tailgate only opens when the key is directly nearby — even though all other doors are already unlocked. The keyless sensor of the tailgate appears to have a shorter range.
