Honda Jazz
The 1.5L i-MMD e:HEV hybrid powertrain in the Jazz GR (2020βpresent) is technically mature. Long-term data is still limited.
Quick in Town, OK Elsewhere
Jazz e:HEV accelerates lively up to 60β70 km/h thanks to 253 Nm of electric motor torque. On the motorway the system loses its appeal. Practical and comfortable, no driving fun promised.
Engine Weaknesses 3
The Jazz GR e:HEV draws current from the 12V auxiliary battery even when parked. After as little as 10β15 days without driving, the voltage can drop to critical levels.
Symptoms: Vehicle won't start after several days of standstill, 12V battery deeply discharged
Early production Jazz GR models had documented software bugs that caused the reversing camera or infotainment to freeze. Honda issued software updates.
Symptoms: Infotainment screen freezes or goes black, reversing camera shows no image
The adaptive cruise control on the Jazz GR e:HEV disengages below 30 km/h by design. In stop-and-go traffic the driver must brake manually.
Symptoms: Adaptive cruise control disengages automatically below 30 km/h, driver must brake manually
Vehicle Weaknesses 12
On the 2020 model year, a defective seatbelt strap sensor can incorrectly detect the tension and position of the seatbelt. The restraint function in an accident is then not guaranteed.
A software fault can cause the collision warning system to fail completely. The KBA has documented the recall for the 2021β2022 model year. Increased accident risk.
The 12V auxiliary battery discharges prematurely in short-distance drivers or after extended periods of standing. This causes starting problems, warning messages and failures of the onboard electronics.
Several Jazz GR owners report air conditioning failures. The cause is usually the compressor or condenser, as with previous generations.
The infotainment system occasionally freezes or loses Bluetooth connection. Isolated reports of failed USB ports and exterior mirrors no longer folding electrically.
Typical of e:HEV models with strong regeneration: the rear brake discs are rarely subjected to thermal load and rust quickly. The pad barely wears, but the disc rusts.
Honda has skimped on underbody rust protection on the Jazz. Wax cavity protection is recommended for long-term ownership. Particularly affects salt-laden regions.
Daytime running lights and front fog lights fail at an above-average rate at the first and second MOT. Documented on both the Jazz GK and GR.
Lane keeping and collision warning systems occasionally intervene without apparent reason or issue false warnings. The traffic sign recognition sometimes requires camera recalibration.
Condensation forming on the inside of the taillights indicates inadequate sealing of the light units. A purely cosmetic defect, but may be flagged at the MOT.
The electric folding function of the door mirrors fails on isolated occasions. The motor or gear inside the mirror housing wears out.
USB ports inside the cabin fail on isolated occasions β no charging or data connection is possible. Replacement requires a workshop visit.
