LDA 1.3L IMA Hybrid 88 hp Automatic Front-wheel drive 2011–2014
✖ Stay Away!
Engine LDA ✖ Stay Away! 4,430–12,700 €

The 1.3L IMA hybrid system has two critical age-related weaknesses: the NiMH high-voltage battery degrades significantly from around 130,000–150,000 km. DC-DC converter failures as a consequence are typical.

Fun Factor? Not Really

Eco Tool, No Fun

88 hp and 11.7 seconds to 100 — the IMA system always keeps the combustion engine spinning. CVT with a rubber-band feel, light steering with no feedback. Fuel-saver concept, no driving experience.

Engine Weaknesses 3

!! IMA high-voltage battery degradation — total failure possible

The NiMH high-voltage battery of the IMA system degrades over time due to cell imbalance. From around 130,000–150,000 km, capacity drops significantly. A new Honda battery costs €3,300–€5,500.

Symptoms: IMA warning light on, reduced hybrid output, engine runs on petrol alone more frequently

1,500–5,500 € from 130,000 km
!! DC-DC converter failure — 12V battery no longer charges

When the IMA high-voltage battery fails, the DC-DC converter can no longer charge the 12V battery. The vehicle becomes unable to start. Converter replacement costs around €2,150.

Symptoms: 12V battery drains while driving, vehicle won't start, IMA warning light on

1,500–2,500 € from 130,000 km
!! IMA fault code prevents MOT/vehicle inspection pass

Active IMA fault codes cause an MOT failure as the OBD readiness monitors cannot be fully set.

Symptoms: IMA warning light permanently active, OBD readiness not set, MOT/vehicle inspection fails

0–500 € from 130,000 km

Vehicle Weaknesses 7

!! Other Takata airbag recall

Multiple recall campaigns for driver and passenger airbags (2016 and 2019) due to faulty Takata gas generators that can propel metal fragments when deployed. Check with a dealer without delay.

!! Gearbox i-Shift software fault — stalling at traffic lights

On vehicles with i-Shift gearbox, a software fault in the control unit can cause the engine to stall at traffic lights or the vehicle to roll backwards. Affected: May 2008 to December 2011.

0–200 €
!! HVAC A/C relay and compressor defective

The air conditioning is a Honda-typical weak point: the relay (Omron brand) fails prematurely; alternatively the magnetic clutch or compressor fails. Mitsuba brand replacement relay recommended.

100–1,200 € from 90,000 km
!! Brakes Rear brake corrosion

The rear brakes seize on city vehicles with low mileage. Regular cleaning and greasing of the brake callipers is required to prevent seizure.

150–400 € from 80,000 km
!! Rust Rust in rear left wheel arch

Models from 2009 onwards show rust starting in the rear left wheel arch in the area of the fuel filler cap. The boot can also take in water through leaks, which promotes corrosion.

300–1,000 € from 100,000 km
!! Gearbox CVT start clutch causes judder when pulling away

The multi-disc wet clutch (start clutch) in the CVT gets contaminated by spent additives in the gearbox oil. An oil change helps temporarily; the revised start clutch assembly must be fitted for a permanent fix.

800–1,200 € from 80,000 km
! Electronics Premature battery discharge

Particularly on 2011–2013 models, owners report premature battery discharge, especially on low-mileage city vehicles and in winter.

80–200 € from 60,000 km
