Dacia Jogger 1

Weaknesses, engine ratings and buying advice

3.0 / 5.0 · Based on 3 engine variants · How we rate

The Jogger I is Dacia's cleverest move in recent years: an affordable seven-seater that combines estate, van and crossover looks in one vehicle while remaining unbeatable on price. Part of the range since 2022, its stretched platform offers plenty of space and flexibility for families seeking maximum practicality for little money. Technically it is a modern Renault-group parts-bin in Dacia's budget wrapping — pragmatic, practical and free of premium pretensions.

The engine range splits in two. The 1.0-litre turbo three-cylinders are the pragmatic choice: the factory LPG version (H4D) is peppy and very cheap to run, while the stronger petrol (H4Dt) is torquey in everyday use. Both, however, run without hydraulic lifters, so the valve clearance needs regular checking, and the TCe family is prone to timing-chain stretch and oil in the spark-plug wells. The 1.6-litre full hybrid (H4M with E-Tech, around 141 hp system power) is quiet and efficient in town but is the point of concern: the E-Tech transmission has been subject to recalls, including one for a loss-of-drive risk, plus reports of strong jerking under hard braking and a gearbox that can jump into neutral when stopping.

On body and electronics, the Jogger shows the typical weaknesses of a young budget car. The MediaNav display freezes or goes black, the 12V battery tends to discharge prematurely, and the interior trim creaks and rattles. Notable issues include premature front brake wear, limited factory corrosion protection and an occasionally leaking windscreen with water ingress. On the chassis there are leaking front dampers as well as creaking springs and top mounts. One recall is to be taken seriously, in which a rear wheel can come loose — be sure to check that this action has been carried out.

Bottom line, the Jogger is an outstanding value-for-money package as long as you choose the drivetrain with care. For the fewest worries, the LPG or petrol three-cylinder is the calmer recommendation — provided the valve clearance and timing chain are kept in check. If you want the full hybrid, insist on completed recalls and a complete history. As a cheap, practical family seven-seater it is hard to beat, but it demands the usual checks of a young, economically built car.

Engine Overview

The Dacia Jogger 1 is available with 3 engine variants — from 91 to 140 hp.

1.0L Turbo · LPG· 91 PS
2022 2026

A turbocharged one-litre three-cylinder running on factory LPG — lively and economical, but demanding careful maintenance. There is no hydraulic lash adjustment, so valve clearances need regular checks. The timing chain can stretch if oil servicing is deferred, making clean change intervals essential. Oil in the spark-plug wells appears over the years. Gas operation adds load to the valve seats, the gas injectors foul up and diagnostics of the gas system are limited; the tank requires its mandatory revision. The small turbo's cooling system deserves particular attention.

1.0L Turbo · Petrol· 110 PS
2022 2026

The most powerful version of the turbocharged 1.0-litre three-cylinder, lively and with strong pulling power in everyday use. The engine runs without hydraulic lifters, so the valve clearance must be checked regularly, at the latest every hundred thousand kilometres, and adjusted if needed. The timing chain can stretch over time and announces itself with a rattle on cold starts, making early inspection worthwhile. Oil in the spark plug wells points to leaking seals. Under heavier loads, ensure a proper warm-up phase and short oil change intervals, which protects the turbocharger.

1.6L Hybrid · Petrol Hybrid· 140 PS
2023 2026

A full-hybrid drive combining a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with two electric machines, together producing around 141 hp of system output. The combustion engine runs in its efficient range with electric assistance, enabling low real-world consumption. The combined drive module is complex: a failed oil seal between the electric motor and the drive unit can cause oil loss, and a recall addresses a loss-of-drive risk in the E-Tech unit. Noticeable reactions can occur during braking and when switching between electric and combustion operation. Keep software levels current.

  • !! Oil seal e-motor/gearbox faulty from 60,000 km

The shaft seal between the electric motor and the multi-mode gearbox can wear prematurely. Gearbox oil enters the electric motor — gearbox failure without warning is possible. Renault service action OTS 0ET1 / campaign 0E2M.

Symptoms: Shaft seal between electric motor and multi-mode gearbox can wear prematurely
    2,000–13,000 $
  • !! Gearbox drops into neutral when stopping from 28,500 km

Sporadically the gearbox jumps from D or B into N with a strong jolt. Mechanical clunking is audible; a restart is required. Occurs from around 7,500 km.

Symptoms: Sporadically the gearbox jumps from D or B into N with a strong jolt
    200–800 $
  • !! Recall 0E2M: loss of drive risk E-Tech

330,000 E-Tech vehicles recalled. The O-ring between electric motor and gearbox can fail; faulty diagnostic software then triggers limp mode and loss of drive.

    Symptoms: 330,000 vehicles recalled

Vehicle Weaknesses

WeaknessCost
Electronic steering lock faulty

The electronic steering lock sporadically jams and prevents engine start. Display shows 'turn steering wheel + START' without success. Documented on ECO-G: replacement part unavailable for weeks, vehicle had to be recovered multiple times.

Symptoms: Engine will not start, message 'turn steering wheel + START', windows remain open, electric parking brake does not release
from 15,000 km
Medium
!MediaNav display freezes or stays black

The 8-inch MediaNav display fails to start after a long standstill or freezes while driving. Affects all drivetrain variants. Switching ignition off and on helps temporarily; a software update at the dealer is often the only lasting fix.

Symptoms: Black screen after engine start, frozen display while driving, no response to touch input, navigation and reversing camera unavailable
from 5,000 km
Low
!12V battery discharges prematurely

The 12V battery shows warnings such as 'battery low' or 'safety mode' after only a short standstill. Particularly common with short-trip drivers and in winter. The energy management system only charges the battery under overrun conditions, which is insufficient in city traffic. Battery replacement sometimes needed as early as 35,000 km.

Symptoms: 'Battery low' warning in the display, MediaNav shuts off, front radar system reports fault, delayed engine start
from 25,000 km
