Citroën C5 Aircross
Stellantis electric motor on the STLA Medium platform with 170 kW peak power (Long Range). 97 kWh battery for up to 680 km WLTP range. Heat pump standard, DC rapid charging up to 160 kW.
Long-range electric SUV
231 hp and 680 km range — the ë-C5 Aircross Long Range makes EV ownership viable for long distances. Powerful motor and generous battery.
Engine Weaknesses 6
As with most Stellantis electric models, the 12V auxiliary battery discharges during extended standby due to control units that remain permanently active. The problem affects all e-CMP/STLA platform vehicles.
Symptoms: Vehicle won't start after more than 4 weeks of standby, all warning lights active, jump-start required. App loses connection when 12V is flat.
Vehicles on the new Stellantis electric platform (EM-170 in the ë-C4 X and ë-C5 X) show infotainment software bugs similar to those in the ë-C3. The energy consumption display is missing initially; app functions do not work reliably.
Symptoms: Energy consumption data not available on display, app connection unstable, charge scheduling via app fails, occasional touchscreen freeze.
Multiple rapid-charging sessions at high ambient temperatures can thermally stress the battery. The vehicle subsequently reduces power for protection. A longer cool-down break is required.
Symptoms: After multiple rapid-charging sessions on hot days: noticeable power reduction, electric drive system warning message, vehicle operates with limited maximum power.
Some ë-C4/ë-C4 X vehicles show an early drop in the charging curve after software updates. Citroën acknowledges the fault and provides software updates that must be applied at a dealership.
Symptoms: DC charging starts at normal power but drops to 20–30 kW after 10–15 minutes. Charging session takes significantly longer than expected.
All current-generation Citroën EVs (ë-C3, ë-C4, ë-C4 X) cannot receive over-the-air updates. All software corrections require a dealership appointment, which significantly slows down the resolution of known bugs.
Symptoms: Known bugs persist without a dealership visit. App functions, charge scheduling, and infotainment faults cannot be fixed remotely.
The real-world range of the ë-C4/ë-C4 X deviates strongly from the WLTP figure, particularly on motorways. Efficiency drops to 2.8 mi/kWh, well below competitors. In winter, the lack of active battery conditioning makes itself felt.
Symptoms: Significantly lower range than WLTP figure, especially on motorway journeys. In winter range drops to 150–200 km instead of the stated 350+ km.
