Citroën C3 4(CC24) — Problems & Common Faults

Weaknesses, engine ratings and buying advice

2.0 / 5.0 · Based on 2 engine variants · How we rate

The fourth C3 generation of 2024 arrives with a deliberately simple concept — and one decisive technical change: both the petrol and the 48V hybrid use the latest PureTech generation with a timing chain; per trade press, the EB2LTED/EB2LTEDH2 engine codes consistently denote the chain design, closing the predecessors' wet-belt chapter. The Hybrid 100 opened in late 2024 and was quickly replaced by the Hybrid 110 with the electrified e-DCS6 dual-clutch gearbox; in late 2025 the Turbo 100 with a manual followed. ADAC rated the Hybrid 110 at 2.7 overall and the drivetrain at 2.2 — almost brisk performance for a small car, a comfortable but leisurely gearbox, test consumption 6.3 l/100 km. Testing of the manual noted long, notchy gearchanges; praise went to the hydraulically damped suspension, which filters bumps unusually well for the class. Two recalls are documented for early production: the ISA speed-assist software and the telematics control unit, whose failure can disable eCall and drain the starter battery — ask for proof of completion when buying. If you accept the simple materials, you get a comfortable, honestly positioned small car with modernised engine technology; checking software levels and the recall history still belongs to any viewing of this vintage.

Generations

Engine Overview

The Citroën C3 4 is available with 2 engine variants — from 101 to 110 hp.

1.2L Turbo Gen3 · Petrol· 100 PS
2025 2026

Latest PureTech generation of the 1.2 three-cylinder turbo — per trade press, the engine codes EB2LTED/EB2LTEDH2 consistently denote the chain-driven design replacing the predecessors' troublesome wet belt; parts catalogues accordingly list timing chain kits. 205 Nm from 1,750 rpm, direct injection, particulate filter. Early Gen3 production batches (until February 2024) were recalled for a mispositioned camshaft-phaser bolt. Long-term experience with the new chain is still pending — oil quality and intervals remain crucial.

No known weaknesses documented.

1.2L Turbo Mild-Hybrid · Petrol Mild-Hybrid· 100–110 PS
2024 2026

48V mild-hybrid version of the latest PureTech generation: a 1.2 three-cylinder turbo with a timing chain — per trade press, the EB2LTED/EB2LTEDH2 engine codes consistently denote the chain design, no longer the predecessors' wet belt. The 21 kW e-motor sits in the electrified six-speed dual-clutch gearbox (e-DCS6); the 48V battery holds 0.9 kWh. Known early-production items: a recall for a mispositioned camshaft-phaser bolt (until February 2024), the multi-brand high-pressure fuel line recall and the 48V starter-generator fire-safety recall, plus first-batch software glitches and occasional DCS6 control-unit failures on young cars. Long-term chain data is still missing.

  • !! Camshaft Phaser Bolt Incorrectly Positioned (Recall)

On vehicles produced between 2023 and 17 Feb. 2024, the camshaft phaser bolt is incorrectly positioned, which can cause power loss, engine warning light and engine damage.

Symptoms: Engine warning light, power loss, rough running, abnormal noises
    0–0 $
  • !! DCS6 Gearbox Control Unit Failed

The new 6-speed DCS6 dual-clutch gearbox in the 600 Hybrid shows control unit failures in early production years. Vehicles were sometimes undriveable after 470 km.

Symptoms: Error message 'Engine faulty', sudden power loss, vehicle won't start
    800–2,500 $
  • !! Recall 15351R — High-Pressure Fuel Lines

Official KBA recall (ref. 15351R): high-pressure fuel lines may not be tightened correctly — fuel leakage with fire risk possible.

Symptoms: Fuel smell in engine bay, visible leakage at injection line

!Recall: eCall and speed limiter failure from faulty telematics unit

A faulty telematics control unit can cause complete failure of the automatic emergency call system (eCall) and the speed limiter. The faulty unit can also drain the vehicle battery. The component is replaced under the recall.

Symptoms: Warning light for eCall/emergency call system, non-functioning speed limiter, unusually fast draining starter battery.
Low
Recall: Intelligent Speed Assist (ISA) system not functioning

A software fault in the body control module or front-camera software means the legally required speed assistance system (ISA) does not work as intended, or fails to flag incorrect speed-limit detection. Several 2024/2025 production batches are affected.
