Audi 60 TFSI e

DCBE 3.0L TFSI e V6 490 hp Automatic All-wheel drive SUV 2024–2026
– Be Careful
Engine DCBE – Be Careful 27,450–77,200 €

EA839 V6 plug-in hybrid with 250 kW combustion engine and 100 kW electric motor. System output up to 340 kW (462 PS). Fitted in Q7/Q8 as 55/60 TFSI e. Note recall 93QQ for high-voltage battery fire risk.

Fun Factor? Fun to Drive!

Electric locomotive with a luxury certificate

The Q7 60 TFSI e surprises positively: 489 hp from V6 plus electric motor, combined with air suspension, produces surprisingly agile handling despite 2.5 tonnes. Over 50 km of electric range is respectable for an SUV.

Engine Weaknesses 9

!! Water Pump Failure EA839 (Critical)

The EA839 has a design weakness in the water pump: an internal leak draws coolant into the vacuum system. This can lead to catastrophic engine damage.

Symptoms: Coolant level drops with no visible leak; P0299 fault code; coolant residue on left cylinder head; overheating warning.

1,500–4,000 € from 100,000 km
!! Recall 93QQ β€” High-Voltage Battery Fire Risk

The Q7/Q8 TFSI e high-voltage battery (build date 08/2019–07/2024) can overheat during charging and cause a fire. Recall code 93QQ, approx. 18,650 vehicles worldwide affected.

Symptoms: High-voltage battery warning message; charging interrupted; Audi recommends not charging until software update.

0–15,000 €
!! Hybrid Gearbox Failure V6 PHEV

The PHEV gearbox installed in the Q7/Q8 TFSI e is the heavily loaded large variant. Defects in the clutch, mechatronic unit and hydraulic control lead to costly repairs.

Symptoms: Shift jerk on pull-away; hesitation when downshifting; gearbox warning message; in worst case complete failure.

4,000–10,000 € from 80,000 km
!! Catalytic Converter Ceramic Failure EA839

After around 100,000 km, catalytic converters in the EA839 can crumble. Ceramic dust enters the cylinders and causes severe engine damage. In PHEV use, cold starts after electric-only phases accelerate wear.

Symptoms: Metallic clattering from exhaust area; engine power loss; increased fuel consumption.

1,500–4,000 € from 100,000 km
!! Timing Chain Rattle EA839 V6

The EA839 3.0 TFSI shows characteristic timing chain rattle on cold start from missing or faulty check valves in the oil channels. The chain tensioner takes too long on initial pressure build-up.

Symptoms: Clear metallic rattling on cold start that subsides after 1–3 seconds; in advanced cases also with warm engine.

2,000–4,500 € from 100,000 km
!! Elevated Oil Consumption EA839 3.0 TFSI

Some EA839 variants tend to elevated oil consumption of up to 0.5 l/1,000 km. In PHEV operation with frequent cold starts, wear accelerates.

Symptoms: Oil level drops noticeably between services; oil burn smell; blue smoke under load.

3,000–7,000 € from 120,000 km
!! High-Voltage Battery Capacity Loss Q7/Q8

The high-voltage battery in the Q7/Q8 TFSI e loses capacity through ageing. In the heavier SUV, the range loss is even more noticeable than in smaller PHEVs.

Symptoms: Electric range well below WLTP; below 20 km in winter.

12,000–18,000 €
!! 12V Battery Drain PHEV Q7/Q8

The Q7/Q8's electrical auxiliary load is significant. After long electric-only driving with a depleted HV battery, the 12V battery can become discharged.

Symptoms: Warning message 'Battery weak'; control units fail; vehicle will not start.

250–600 €
! Brake Disc Rust Corrosion from Regeneration

In the Q7/Q8 TFSI e, brakes are barely mechanically activated in daily use due to intensive regenerative braking (up to 80 kW). Salt and moisture rust the brake discs.

Symptoms: Visible rust on brake discs; grinding and squealing; MOT-relevant brake disc corrosion.

400–900 € from 50,000 km

Vehicle Weaknesses 5

!! Suspension Air Suspension Compressor and Air Bags Failed

Standard air suspension shows frequent compressor and air bag failures from 80,000–120,000 km. Leaking bags make the compressor run continuously until it burns out.

800–3,500 € from 90,000 km
!! Other AdBlue System Failure (SCR Injection)

AdBlue system on 3.0 TDI models shows frequent faults from around 60,000 km: clogged injectors from urea crystallisation, faulty dosing pump. Repair costs up to 4,000 €.

600–4,000 € from 70,000 km
!! Brakes Premature Brake Wear Due to Vehicle Weight

Kerb weight above 2,000 kg leads to significantly elevated brake wear. Front brake discs and pads may need replacing as early as 30,000–50,000 km.

700–2,500 € from 40,000 km
! Electronics MMI Touch/MIB2 System Crashes

MIB2 infotainment system tends to crash and complete failure from electrical faults or moisture ingress. MOST ring network fails completely when one component drops out.

400–2,000 € from 80,000 km
! Electronics Electric Tow Bar Control Unit Fault

Electrically extending tow bar shows frequent control unit faults (EEPROM, Hall sensor). Without correct coding, ACC and front camera fail.

300–1,200 € from 60,000 km
