VW Multivan
EA211 in the eHybrid. System output 150 kW (204 hp) or 180 kW (245 hp GTE). 13 kWh battery for approximately 60β70 km electric range.
Bulli goes PHEV
The eHybrid in the T7 Multivan offers a decent electric share, but the high weight and PHEV compromises allow little genuine driving fun.
Engine Weaknesses 6
The DGEB PHEV in the Tarraco (245 hp system output) shares the known HV coolant circuit problem of the VAG PHEV platform. Defective heat exchanger between A/C and HV cooling causes coolant loss and pressure issues. Repair approx. 400 euros plus fitting.
Symptoms: Red warning triangle, hybrid fault message, vehicle will not start, HV coolant reservoir level dropped
Individual HV battery cells can fail prematurely and deactivate the battery. Skoda started voluntary service action 93P7 in September 2022. Primarily model year 2021.
Symptoms: Sudden power loss, vehicle unresponsive to throttle for 2β3 seconds, HV battery warning, vehicle must be towed
In the DGEB PHEV Tarraco there is no alternator. The 12V battery is supplied through the HV system. With purely electric use and no regular combustion engine operating phases, the 12V battery can be drained.
Symptoms: Keyless entry failure, starting difficulties, 12V battery warning, pre-conditioning not working
The Tarraco with DGEB occasionally shows hybrid ECU errors leading to warnings and electric drive failure. Software update or ECU replacement required. HV work only at certified Level 3 workshops.
Symptoms: Hybrid drive drops out, fault message on display, vehicle drives in combustion-only mode
The 12V starter battery drains through faulty control unit software (BEM/gateway), especially on early vehicles 2020β2021. Multiple system errors are triggered by undervoltage.
Symptoms: Vehicle activates itself overnight, numerous simultaneous ADAS errors, vehicle will not start
After the 8-year/160,000-km warranty expires, HV battery replacement costs approx. 12,000 euros at the Skoda dealer. Real long-term degradation data is not yet available.
Symptoms: Noticeably reduced electric range (below 70% of original range), battery capacity display declining
Vehicle Weaknesses 12
Faulty retaining clips on the curtain airbags plus incorrectly routed wiring harnesses can cause vehicle failure and in extreme cases fire risk. 7,896 vehicles affected worldwide.
The T7 eHybrid can fail completely after extended standstill or due to a DC/DC converter fault: no key access, all four wheels locked, complete electrical failure.
The DSG gearbox shows early juddering during pull-away and gear changes, and the error message 'Gearbox fault' with engine limp mode. Cases documented from as few as 1,000 km.
During heavy braking of the weighty T7, brake discs can warp or glaze, causing noticeable vibrations in the brake pedal and steering wheel. Repair costs approximately β¬1,100.
The AC evaporator freezes over completely during extended operation, meaning only warm air comes from the vents after 1β1.5 hours of driving. Causes: blocked condensate drain or defective anti-icing sensor.
The Multivan T7's electric sliding door only opens a few millimetres in cold weather or fails to close fully. Common causes are dirty rails, corroded contacts in the lock, or broken energy chains.
Loud wind noise from 120 km/h due to faulty door seals or panel gap tolerances. Dealers sometimes describe the noise level as 'normal', even though it is fatiguing for the driver.
Various software issues such as infotainment crashes, incorrect warning messages, driver assistance system errors, and software faults during charging were reported particularly in early model years.
Clicking and rattling interior noises as well as poorly fitting panels have been reported by numerous T7 owners. Noticeable quality variation between individual vehicles.
The T7 Multivan on the MQB platform shows the typical VW commercial vehicle front axle thumping on uneven roads. Sway bar links and strut mounts are frequently affected; DCC dampers are sometimes replaced early.
The MIB3 infotainment system in the Multivan T7 frequently crashes and restarts. Navigation startup hangs, map spins in circles, sound system fails. VW releases updates that only partially resolve the issues.
The Webasto auxiliary heater in the Multivan T7 runs for only 1β3 minutes after activation via remote control and then shuts itself off. Causes: insufficient fuel at the glow plug, voltage drops, or clogged combustion chamber from infrequent use.
