Tesla Performance
Dual permanent magnet motors, 377 kW peak. Track Mode pushes components harder — expect drive unit bearing wear earlier than Long Range. Same NMC degradation profile. Braking system handles hard use well but consumes pads faster despite regen. Drive unit replacement: $6,000-10,000 out of warranty; bearing-only repair $400 at independent shops.
2.9 seconds — this time with brakes that keep up
Highland Performance fixes the biggest flaw: frequency-selective dampers, better brakes, substance behind the brutality. Interior finally matches the performance — no cheap plastics. While BMW M3 and C63 AMG pipe in artificial engine noise through speakers, Tesla delivers silence at cruise and raw motor scream at full throttle. Honest enough for no fake sound.

Higher thermal and mechanical loads from Performance/Track Mode accelerate bearing wear. May appear 50-80k miles with frequent track use. Same repair: $400 bearings or $6,000-10,000 full unit.
Symptoms: Whining on hard acceleration, milling noise at speed
Same charge port door motor failure. Actuator dies, port stuck. Updated Tesla part $360, third-party $57.
Symptoms: Charge port door unresponsive
Same latch failure across all variants. Cable locked in place, emergency release can also break.
Symptoms: Charging cable locked, unable to disconnect
Same NMC pack as Long Range. Performance use increases thermal cycling but fleet data shows minimal degradation difference. ~85% at 200,000 miles.
Symptoms: Gradual range decrease

Highland replaced stalks with capacitive steering wheel buttons. Buttons become unresponsive, lock out after finger rest, or need excessive force. May be software-related — some cases resolved via OTA. Unique to Highland redesign.
Some early Highland deliveries arrive with off-center steering. Service corrects alignment but shouldn't be necessary on a new car. Higher frequency on early 2024 builds.
LED light strips above door interior handles develop cracks from panel flex when pulling the door shut. Direct sunlight through windows causes heat-related bubbling in the LED strip material. Tesla replaces the entire door panel rather than just the light bar. Covered under warranty — mobile service can handle the replacement.
Rattling headliners, buzzing door panels, intermittent ambient lighting glitches on early Highland builds. Typical early-production cosmetic issues.
