The EA888 Gen4 (DNPB, 2.0 TSI 140 kW) is the most reliable generation of this engine family to date. Miller cycle and partial port injection reduce intake valve carbon build-up. Timing chain and oil ring issues of earlier generations have been largely resolved.

Engine Weaknesses 3
Under extreme use (chip tuning, sustained full-load operation), pistons and ring lands can be damaged by high thermal loads. Regular operation is significantly less affected.
Symptoms: Strongly elevated oil consumption, power loss, metallic noises, engine check light
Despite the improved timing chain versus Gen1/2, chain tensioners and guide rails can wear at high mileage, especially with extended oil change intervals or poor-quality lubrication.
Symptoms: Metallic rattling on cold start, rough engine running, engine check light
Turbocharger damage usually arises as a consequence of oil starvation or insufficient warm-up. Boost pressure control and turbocharger housing seals can fail at high mileage.
Symptoms: Power loss, whistling noise when revving, oil in charge air hose, blue exhaust

The passenger airbag gas generator can burst on deployment and propel metal fragments into the interior. KBA recall from July 2025, airbag replaced free of charge. Fabia IV also affected.
All camera-based assistance systems fail simultaneously and report themselves as unavailable. The cause is a recognition problem with the windscreen camera. Skoda is developing a software update. Problems occur from as little as ~4,000 km.
The DCC adaptive dampers display fault messages in the on-board computer and switch to standard mode. Software errors or defective damper sensors are common causes.
The MIB4 infotainment system switches itself on when approaching the vehicle, freezes or becomes unresponsive. The KESSY system sporadically fails to unlock all doors. Software updates only partially resolve the problems.
The fuel filler flap sits crooked in the bodywork and dealers say it is within tolerance. The tank ventilation does not work reliably: the tank only takes 50–55 litres despite the gauge reading empty, requiring slow refuelling.
The Matrix LED headlights fog on the inside, particularly in damp weather and with temperature changes. Leaking ventilation membranes are a common cause.
