Skoda Fabia
Three-cylinder turbopetrol from the EA211 evo range, in Fabia/Octavia from 2017. Solid, light engine with timing belt instead of chain — more service-friendly than the predecessor. Weak points: OPF blockage in short-trip driving and occasional oil consumption.
95 hp TSI — acceptable entry turbo
70 kW TSI in the new Fabia: the turbo makes the difference over the MPI. Adequate for town and country roads.
Engine Weaknesses 3
On some EA211 evo units, elevated oil consumption from around 50,000 km caused by worn piston rings or a defective crankcase ventilation. Consumption can exceed 0.5 L/1,000 km.
Symptoms: Oil level warning, blue exhaust on cold start, oil film in intake tract
The petrol particulate filter does not regenerate sufficiently in predominantly short-trip driving. Back-pressure rises, power drops noticeably. Common on city vehicles from 30,000–50,000 km.
Symptoms: Power loss, elevated consumption, cooling fan runs on, warning 'check exhaust system'
EGR and direct injection cause carbon deposits in the intake tract and EGR valve, especially at low load points and on short runs. Relevant from around 80,000 km.
Symptoms: Rough idle especially when cold, sluggish throttle response, EGR fault codes in ECU
Vehicle Weaknesses 5
A production deviation can cause the passenger airbag to tear or fail to deploy correctly when triggered. KBA number 013100, Skoda code 69EU. Approximately 49,000 vehicles affected worldwide.
The MIB3 infotainment system freezes, restarts spontaneously or shows a black screen. Software updates can temporarily resolve the problem but sometimes introduce new issues.
The rear axle (twist-beam) produces a thumping noise over bumps. The axle mounting bushings or loose shock absorber fixings are often the cause.
Seat covers show early creasing and distortion, particularly on the front seats. The problem is cosmetic and is only covered by the factory warranty in the early stages.
Wind noise at the A-pillar at motorway speed. The door seal does not make optimal contact with the A-pillar trim in the upper area.
Reports & Tests
The current Fabia performs above average at the MOT inspection. Only slightly elevated fault rates for headlight alignment and central locking are notable.
