Seat Ateca
EA211 three-cylinder with 85 kW and OPF to Euro 6d. Successor to the DKJA with optimised exhaust system. Reliable everyday engine.
SUV on a shoestring
In the Ateca KH the 1.0 TSI with 85 kW feels noticeably underpowered. The SUV weight erodes reserves, and motorway journeys become a test of patience. The low fuel consumption is commendable — and that is about it.
Engine Weaknesses 4
DKRA 1.0 TSI 110hp model years 2019–2020: a defective check valve can draw oil into the brake booster and impair brake assistance.
Symptoms: Harder brake pedal feel, increased stopping distance, brake pedal without servo assistance
Like all EA211 TSI variants, the DKJA timing belt runs in an oil bath. Strictly adhering to oil change intervals is mandatory. Early replacement recommended for short-trip use.
Symptoms: Rattling, engine warning light, rough engine running
In the 1.0 TSI with OPF, injectors can exceed permissible leak rates, causing emissions issues. VW carried out injector replacements as a warranty measure.
Symptoms: Engine warning light, increased fuel consumption, rough idle
Identical issue to the closely related CHZC: the DKRA wastegate linkage corrodes and rattles between 1,800 and 3,000 rpm when lifting off the throttle.
Symptoms: Clattering rattle when lifting off throttle in the mid rev range
Vehicle Weaknesses 9
On manual transmission and 1.0 TSI models the electric parking brake can release unintentionally at temperatures below 5°C. Faulty gearbox sensor signal.
The body control module of 2016–2018 models does not detect an LED indicator failure and does not show rapid blinking.
Defective headlight control units on 2018 models caused glare risk. A recall was initiated.
Blocked drainage valves on the panoramic roof let water into the boot. Up to 6 litres reported in the spare wheel well.
Rust spots have been found on the tailgate of some Ateca examples.
Brake discs show an insufficient contact pattern more frequently than average in TÜV reports. ACC systems place additional load on the rear brakes.
Cables in the hinge area break through constant bending movement. Workshops often replace the entire motor instead of just the cables.
The anti-trap protection trips falsely and prevents the window from closing fully. Dirty guide rails or a misadjusted sensor are the cause.
Door trims and inner door handles cause knocking noises from minimal play. Felt pads or foam buffers as remedy.
Reports & Tests
The Ateca is among the better compact SUVs at the roadworthiness inspection: chassis, steering, and exhaust show few issues. Only brake discs are flagged for insufficient contact pattern more often than average.
