Porsche Taycan 4S Sport Turismo

Taycan-AWD-4S Elektro AWD 4S 530 hp Automatic All-wheel drive Wagon 2022–2024
– Be Careful
Engine Taycan-AWD-4S – Be Careful 17,300–49,400 €

Dual-motor configuration with AWD — the 4S is the entry to the AWD Taycan at 390 kW in overboost. The driving feel differs from the rear-drive version noticeably in traction; on dry roads the difference is subtler. Porsche struck a good compromise with the 4S: enough power for genuine sportiness, still manageable running costs. The AWD Taycan has the better launch feel and handles any weather.

Fun Factor? Fun to Drive!

4S Cross Turismo: AWD All-Rounder

Cross Turismo 4S — the most practical Taycan package. All-wheel drive plus more boot space plus sports suspension. For families or high-mileage drivers using the Taycan as their only vehicle, the most convincing configuration. Dynamically complete, not compromised.

Engine Weaknesses 8

!! Recall APB5: HV battery short circuit fire risk

Manufacturing defects in HV battery cells can lead to short circuit and fire risk. KBA recall affects approx. 27,000 vehicles worldwide. Porsche replaces affected cell modules free of charge.

0–0 €
!! Heating fails completely (Webasto H10)

The Webasto H10 heating module fails due to a solder defect on the circuit board. The interior stays cold and the HV battery thermal management operates in a degraded state. Porsche replaced the H10 with the H11.

Symptoms: Blower running but only blowing cold air; A/C fault message; battery temperature warning in winter.

0–0 € from 25,000 km
!! OTA software update bricks the vehicle

If an OTA update is interrupted by a Wi-Fi dropout or the charging cable being unplugged prematurely, the vehicle gets stuck in an update loop and cannot start. Only a dealer can reset it.

Symptoms: Display permanently shows 'Software update in progress — vehicle not ready to drive'; cannot start; PCM unresponsive.

0–300 €
!! 12 V auxiliary battery discharges

The LiFePO4 auxiliary battery discharges completely after extended standing; the BMS disconnects it to prevent deep discharge. The vehicle responds to neither the key nor the app — despite a fully charged HV battery.

Symptoms: Vehicle cannot be opened or started; no response to remote or app; vehicle completely unresponsive.

300–800 € from 30,000 km
!! HV battery capacity loss (state of health)

Most Taycan batteries lose less than 10% capacity up to 100,000 km. However, vehicles in hot climates with frequent DC fast charging can lose >15%. Warranty threshold is 80% after 3 years.

Symptoms: Reduced displayed maximum range; instrument cluster shows fewer available kWh; charging process ends earlier than expected.

8,000–25,000 € from 80,000 km
! Reduction gear whine

In the speed range 33-70 km/h, a penetrating whine or hum from the rear axle reduction gear; rpm-dependent. Constructively improved from MY2022.

Symptoms: Whining or humming noise at approx. 40, 60, 74 km/h; also occurs in glide mode.

2,000–6,000 € from 15,000 km
! PCM infotainment freezes

Porsche Communication Management freezes on the logo or becomes unresponsive; navigation, CarPlay and climate control cannot be operated. Reboot: hold both steering wheel scroll buttons for 10 seconds.

Symptoms: Black or frozen screen; no map display; no response to touch.

0–200 € from 20,000 km
! Retractable door handle jams extended

The motorised door handle does not retract when locking, or jams in the extended position. Worsened by icing in winter. Dealers have replaced all four handles in documented cases; recurrence possible.

Symptoms: Door handle remains extended after locking; handle does not respond to touch; occasional self-opening of the latch.

400–1,500 € from 20,000 km

Vehicle Weaknesses 10

!! Other Recall: Drive Cuts Out Spontaneously

In approx. 43,000 Taycans (2020–2021) the drive can cut out spontaneously during driving and traction is lost. Porsche resolved this via a software update.

0–0 €
!! Other Recall APB5: High-Voltage Battery Fire Risk

Inadequate sealing in HV battery modules allows moisture ingress and creates arcing with fire risk. Charging limited to max. 80% until repaired.

0–0 €
!! Other 12V Lithium Battery Drains During Long Standstill

The 12V lithium battery fully discharges after standing for more than 10–14 days, especially in winter. Car becomes unresponsive; doors remain electrically locked.

300–800 € from 15,000 km
!! HVAC Webasto Heating Module Failure

The Webasto H10 heating module fails; cabin stays cold. Windscreen defrosting not possible. Approx. 800 Taycans affected (2020–2021). Replaced with the H11 version; long wait times.

800–2,500 € from 20,000 km
!! Electronics 22 kW On-Board Charger Failure

The optional 22 kW on-board charger (OBC) fails due to weak MOSFET chips. AC charging is no longer possible or is severely throttled. Parts were intermittently out of stock.

3,500–5,000 € from 50,000 km
! Electronics PCM Infotainment System Crashes or Freezes

The PCM6 infotainment system freezes on startup or crashes during driving. Navigation stops responding, radio presets are lost, Spotify and CarPlay cut out.

0–500 € from 10,000 km
! Brakes PSCB Brake Discs Squeal and Rust on Inner Surface

The optional Porsche Surface Coated Brake (PSCB) discs squeal when braking, especially noticeable with windows down. Inner disc surfaces rust and leave stains on wheels.

2,000–6,000 € from 50,000 km
i Body Uneven Panel Gaps Bonnet/Front Wings

Some Taycans show uneven body panel gaps, particularly between the bonnet and front wings. Quality variation from suppliers. No safety issue.

0–500 €
i Suspension Front Axle Clunks When Turning

At low speed with large steering angles the front axle pops or clicks, particularly in cold conditions or after standing. Ackermann effect of the sports geometry — technically normal, no repair required.

0–0 €
i Interior Rattling Noises from Dashboard and B-Pillar

Isolated rattling noises from the dashboard and B-pillar when driving over uneven surfaces. Rear seatbelt rattles against B-pillar trim.

0–300 € from 20,000 km
