CSZB 2.9L V6 Turbo 330 hp Automatic All-wheel drive Sedan 2019–2024
– Be Careful
Engine CSZB – Be Careful 12,500–50,100 €

The 2.9L biturbo V6 in the Panamera 971 S β€” hot-V configuration with instantly available torque. Throttle response is direct with no turbo lag, 450 hp convinces in a GT saloon. Sonically the biturbo V6 is better than a single turbo, but no V8 β€” that has to be accepted. The EA839 architecture brings group reliability, the EA825 V8 variant brings more charisma. The choice depends on what matters more: reason or passion.

Fun Factor? Decent

Panamera 4 V6 β€” solid all-wheel-drive GT

The Panamera 4 with the 3.0 V6 is the entry into the Panamera world: 330 hp, all-wheel drive, PDK β€” everything works flawlessly, nothing excites. The saloon glides serenely on the motorway, the V6 is quiet and refined, the PDK shifts unobtrusively. As a touring saloon a genuine alternative to the Mercedes S β€” as a sports car the emotion Porsche promises is missing. The V6 sounds anonymous, the suspension is comfort-oriented. For buyers who want Porsche quality without Porsche character.

Engine Weaknesses 7

!! Water pump leaking / vacuum contamination

The 2.9T variant of the EA839 platform shares the water pump weakness with the 3.0T. Coolant enters the vacuum lines and destroys the switching valves. An improved water pump (6-bolt design) has been available since 2024.

Symptoms: P0299 underboost, limp mode, coolant loss without visible leak, extended engine warm-up time, turbo fault messages

3,500–7,000 € from 50,000 km
!! Water pump failure

Panamera 971 2.9T: water pump can fail prematurely. Porsche extended warranty applies. Regular inspection recommended.

Symptoms: Coolant loss, temperature warning

1,500–3,500 € from 60,000 km
!! Turbo bearing wear due to heat soak

EA839 V6 turbo: heat soak in the turbo bearings when the engine is switched off immediately after full load. Cool-down of 2–3 minutes required.

Symptoms: Whistling turbo noise, increasing oil consumption, dropping boost pressure

2,000–6,000 € from 100,000 km
! Camshaft phaser solenoids sludge up

With extended oil change intervals, solenoid valves become clogged with oil sludge. Fault codes P0011/P0014.

Symptoms: Rattling on cold start, rough idle, MIL

100–500 € from 80,000 km
! PCV breather hose check valve defective

EA839 PCV hose check valves fail before 100,000 km. Particularly relevant on the 2.9T biturbo as two turbo boost pressures must be regulated. 034Motorsport reinforced version available as an upgrade.

Symptoms: Oil mist in the intake system, elevated oil consumption, whistling noise from engine bay under load, boost fluctuations

150–500 € from 60,000 km
! Oil filter housing gasket leaking

The gasket on the top-mounted oil filter housing fails through thermal compression. On the 2.9T biturbo the thermal load is high due to heat from the turbos. Repair requires turbo removal.

Symptoms: Oil loss behind front wheels, oil smell, dropping oil level, fire risk from oil on hot exhaust components if neglected for long

500–2,000 € from 80,000 km
! Ignition coil failure (2.9T biturbo V6)

Ignition coils on the 2.9T fail preferentially in humid climates. Since worn spark plugs damage new coils, replacing all six coils and plugs simultaneously is advisable.

Symptoms: Misfire code P030X, rough idle, power drop, flashing check engine light during active misfire

400–1,000 € from 80,000 km

Vehicle Weaknesses 8

!! Gearbox PDK clutch slips

On Turbo variants with high torque, the PDK clutch can wear prematurely with spirited driving. Clutch replacement required.

2,000–10,000 € from 80,000 km
!! HVAC Blocked roof drains damage hybrid battery

Roof drains block with leaves. Water enters the interior and can damage the high-voltage battery on E-Hybrid models. Cleaning every 2 years is essential.

500–8,000 € from 60,000 km
!! Suspension Air suspension: compressor failures

Improved over the 970, but air suspension compressor and valve block remain wear items. High repair costs with premium specification.

800–5,000 € from 80,000 km
!! Body Roof drains block, water in boot

Leaves and debris collect at the bonnet hinge recesses and block the water channel in front of the windscreen. Water runs into the passenger footwell or boot. Regular cleaning required.

0–500 € from 50,000 km
! Electronics Driver assistance systems malfunctioning

Radar and camera systems for driver assistance show false alerts in poor weather or with dirty sensors. Calibration required after windscreen replacement.

200–2,000 € from 40,000 km
! Interior Door seals leak, headliner comes loose

Door seals allow road noise in. Headliner detaches at the sides due to brittled clips.

100–800 € from 60,000 km
! Brakes Brakes: increased wear due to vehicle weight

The Panamera's high vehicle weight leads to rapid pad and brake disc wear especially at the front axle. Check the brakes regularly, particularly after motorway runs.

600–2,500 € from 40,000 km
! Electronics Electronic systems: PIWIS diagnostics required for many faults

Many ECUs in the 971 generation can only be fully read and configured with the Porsche PIWIS diagnostic tool. Standard OBD2 tools fail with PDK mapping, air suspension and ADAS calibration.

150–800 € from 30,000 km
