Opel Corsa
The PSA/Stellantis electric motor is fundamentally low-maintenance. However, sporadic drivetrain system faults are known that can lead to vehicle immobilisation. Software updates have resolved many cases.
E-Corsa with more range
The more powerful variant of the Corsa-e offers slightly more output and range. Solid electric commuter.

Sporadic 'electric drivetrain system fault' message blocks the vehicle: gearbox stays in park. Occurs from around 10,000 km, often self-resolving after 30 min. Software update brought improvement.
Symptoms: Display shows 'electric drivetrain system fault: stop vehicle'. Gearbox cannot be moved out of P
Isolated cases of gearbox oil loss through a crack in the gearbox casing. Complete gearbox replacement required. Long parts lead times.
Symptoms: Gearbox clunking, power loss, oil under the vehicle, gearbox fault message
The onboard charger (OBC) of the Corsa-e/Mokka-e fails frequently on early build years (2020–2021): AC charging via Type 2 no longer possible, DC rapid charging still works. Opel acknowledged the structural defect and offers special goodwill. OBC replacement approximately 4,000 €.
Symptoms: AC charging aborts immediately after plugging in, LED shows red, vehicle attempts to charge but connector unlocks immediately, DC charging still works.
Sporadic drivetrain fault messages on the Corsa-e/Mokka-e completely block driving. Typically a software reset by disconnecting the battery is sufficient, but a second start attempt after the warning can cause consequential damage.
Symptoms: Drivetrain fault warning light, vehicle won't move, no response to accelerator despite vehicle being switched on.
Electric Opel vans (Vivaro-e/Movano-e) can shut down the drivetrain at speed after DC rapid charging. Software fault — vehicle rolls to a stop, warning lights active.
Symptoms: Vehicle suddenly loses drive power at motorway speed after rapid charging; 'check drivetrain' message; fault usually self-clears after cooling down.
A faulty A/C compressor can deactivate the entire electric drivetrain. Recall carried out for model years 2021–2022. A/C compressor replacement approximately 800–1,500 €.
Symptoms: Drivetrain failure, A/C not working, warning message on display
Early Corsa-e vehicles (build year 2020) had a 12V battery with a production defect. The control unit didn't correctly enter bus sleep mode, leading to complete 12V battery discharge within 24 hours. Replacement under warranty/goodwill.
Symptoms: Vehicle won't start next morning, 12V voltage below 7.5V, all systems dead, no remote wake-up response.
Electric Opel commercial vehicles require regular software updates for battery, charging and drivetrain management. Individual function faults are only resolved by a dealer update.
Symptoms: Irregular charging stops, power reduction, warning messages on display that resolve after software update.
Vehicle Weaknesses 13
In 2021 Opel ran a product improvement action on the Corsa F due to a faulty airbag ground contact caused by a painted bolt. In case of failure the airbag might not deploy.
The 1.2 three-cylinder turbo of the Corsa F uses a timing belt running in oil. Incorrect engine oil (not 0W-20 low-SAPS) accelerates ageing and can cause the belt to break prematurely.
The Corsa F blower motor fails completely after 1–2 years. Fan wheel jams in the housing or motor burns out. Repair costs around 400–1,000 EUR at a workshop.
The IntelliLink infotainment system of the Corsa F tends to freeze, crash sporadically and have unresponsive touchscreen areas. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto drop out. Parking sensors and reversing camera fail simultaneously.
Especially on the heavier Corsa-e (1,530 kg), tie rod ends and ball joints wear unusually early — already from 30,000 km. Opel refused warranty claims citing normal wear.
Many Corsa F vehicles show poor panel gaps from delivery: misaligned bonnet, protruding fuel flap and paint defects on bumpers. Build tolerances are clearly below class level.
Early Corsa F models (up to end of 2020) show catastrophic panel gaps and paint defects from the factory. Bonnet misaligned, fuel flap protruding. Quality control improved from 2021.
The Corsa F infotainment system freezes or becomes unresponsive. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto drop out. Usually temporarily fixable via software update.
The start-stop system of the Corsa F frequently deactivates itself without apparent reason or doesn't work at all. Many vehicles of various model years are affected.
Sills and inner wheel arch surfaces of the Corsa F are delivered without adequate cavity protection. Rust at sills and wheel arches already after 2–3 years, especially in salt-belt regions.
The electric parking brake on the Corsa F sticks in wet conditions or after extended standing. Brake pads stick to the discs. Brake service requires a diagnostic tool to retract the pistons.
The electric cooling fan of the Corsa F fails. Risk of overheating in city driving and traffic jams. Cause is often a defective relay or fan motor. Typical problem at higher mileages.
Several Corsa F owners report rattling from the headliner and centre console from new, plus rattling noises from the ventilation system at medium fan speed. Build quality lags behind the predecessor.
Reports & Tests
The sixth Corsa generation passes MOT inspections more often than the class average. Weak points are substandard paint and panel gap quality and unstable software. Numerous recalls affected steering, airbags, fire risk and eCall.
