Mercedes-Benz EQA 350 4MATIC
Electric drivetrain based on the MFA2 platform (GLA). Battery 66.5 kWh, 11 kW AC charging standard. Reliable drivetrain, battery degradation minimal under normal use.
Electric Confidence
215 kW electric drive provides adequate propulsion. Quiet and comfortable, not exciting.
Engine Weaknesses 5
70.5 kWh high-voltage batteries from Farasis (build 12/2021–01/2024) can develop an internal short circuit through cell faults and cause vehicle fires. 51,729 vehicles worldwide affected.
Symptoms: No prior warning. Recall letter from Mercedes. Prior software throttling: charging times +15 min, range -20%.
At very low temperatures the main HV battery contactor can switch with a delay. Results in a brief start delay; no safety risk.
Symptoms: Delayed start in frost, brief drivetrain fault message
The 12V starter battery is only recharged while driving or during HV charging. After 4–7 days of standing without charging, voltage drops critically. Problem occurs even in vehicles under 2 years old.
Symptoms: App reports critical battery state, power windows no longer operate correctly, vehicle won't start, electrical systems unresponsive
During DC fast charging, the EQA repeatedly aborts the charging session. The problem occurs across various charging station manufacturers. AC charging works more reliably. Software updates do not fully resolve the issue.
Symptoms: Charging starts briefly then aborts with an error message, charging session must be restarted multiple times, state of charge barely increases
Repeated warning messages despite the coolant level being correct. Cause: air bubbles in the system or a faulty expansion tank cap.
Symptoms: Coolant warning light in instrument cluster despite visibly correct fluid level.
Vehicle Weaknesses 6
Short circuit in the Farasis 70.5 kWh pack can lead to vehicle fire. 33,705 vehicles worldwide affected. Software update limits charge to 80%.
Frequent charging interruptions independent of charge point or cable. During AC charging the session drops after 5–6% state of charge. On-board charger sometimes needs replacement.
Sporadic warning messages 'Drivetrain fault'. Cause often an MBUX software or HV battery management bug.
EQA vehicles from production from February 2022 show vibrations (droning) from 60 km/h that intensify up to 110 km/h. Cause unclear; workshop often cannot reproduce the issue.
The 12V onboard battery discharges during extended standstill through networked control units. Software update reduces the problem.
The electric seat adjustment sticks occasionally, particularly the backrest adjustment. Control unit reset or motor replacement usually required.
