Land Rover Evoque P300e
The 1.5L three-cylinder turbo combined with an electric motor as the P300e plug-in hybrid. Inherited the timing chain issue from the Ingenium four-cylinder. EV mode refusal is a very widespread problem on the P300e.
Evoque P300e: electric-dominated daily atmosphere
The plug-in hybrid makes the Evoque electric and thus surprisingly quiet in urban use. With a charged battery a genuine urban sprinter without guilt. The electric torque arrives immediately β on short trips it is a completely different vehicle.
Engine Weaknesses 5
Same base engine as 204PT: timing chain stretches prematurely from plastic guide wear. Cold start roughness is typical in PHEV operation as the engine often starts cold.
Symptoms: Metallic rattling on cold start, engine warning light, fault codes P0016
Same base engine as 204PT: thermostat housing prone to coolant leaks. Part number LR105592.
Symptoms: Coolant loss, temperature fluctuations, false oil level warning (P25A9-00)
Very common issue on the P300e: the system refuses EV mode with "EV temporarily unavailable". Cause is a faulty HV coolant heater or defective control modules.
Symptoms: EV temporarily unavailable message, range loss, unwanted hybrid mode
The P300e PHEV battery loses capacity over time. Electric range noticeably decreases. Charging issues from faulty charge ports are documented.
Symptoms: Reduced electric range, charging errors, charge port unresponsive
On the P300e, predominantly electric driving can cause the combustion engine to start infrequently and cold. Fuel enters the sump unburnt.
Symptoms: Fuel smell in engine oil, oil level above max mark, early service warning
Vehicle Weaknesses 8
The Pivi Pro system (from 2019) freezes, shows a black screen or fails to start correctly. Screen flickers during music changes. Soft reset or control unit replacement required.
Even in the L551 the ZF 9-speed gearbox shows occasional judder and shift hesitation, particularly at low speeds or in town traffic. Software updates ease the issue but do not fully resolve it.
Water enters the boot through the tailgate seal or via the tail light mounting. Boot carpet and electronics become damp.
The optional 48V mild-hybrid system (MHEV) shows failures of the belt-integrated starter-generator (BSG) and voltage issues on the 48V network. Warning lights illuminate, recuperation drops out.
The brake system characteristics put disproportionate load on the rear axle. Rear brake discs and pads need changing more frequently than usual.
The Haldex Gen 5 system in the L551 requires an oil change every 45,000β60,000 km. If neglected, the pump fails. Workshops often overlook this service item.
The AC condensation drain blocks and channels water into the interior. Particularly affects the driver footwell. Regular cleaning prevents the problem.
The Pivi Pro system does not fully shut down when the vehicle is left unlocked. Battery can fully discharge overnight.
