AJ126 3.0L V6 Supercharged 340 hp Automatic All-wheel drive SUV 2013–2017
βœ– Stay Away!
Engine AJ126 βœ– Stay Away! 7,950–28,300 €

3.0-litre V6 Supercharged as the smaller blower option. The coolant crossover pipe beneath the supercharger is system-critical β€” if it fails, engine damage is often unavoidable. Preventive replacement with aluminium pipes is strongly recommended. Check supercharger coupling and timing chain regularly. Water pump replacement requires supercharger removal (expensive).

Fun Factor? Fun to Drive!

Discovery 3.0 SC: supercharged V6 for off-road enthusiasts

The V6 with Roots supercharger delivers a broad torque spread that demands few gearchanges. Particularly effective off-road: constant pull across all revs. Refined and fast on the motorway. Cooling system maintenance is the priority.

Engine Weaknesses 4

!! Plastic coolant pipe under supercharger bursts

The plastic coolant crossover pipe running under the supercharger cracks suddenly from embrittlement. The engine is often irreparably overheated before the temperature warning appears. Very common cause of engine damage. Upgrade to aluminium pipes strongly recommended.

Symptoms: Sudden coolant loss (often instantaneous), overheating warning, steam, potential engine damage

1,500–8,000 € from 100,000 km
!! Timing chain and guides wear

Like the V8 versions, the AJ126 has timing chains with plastic guides. From around 100,000 km guides and tensioners can deteriorate. The supercharger setup increases engine load and accelerates wear.

Symptoms: Metallic rattling on cold start, P0008/P0016, engine light

2,000–6,000 € from 110,000 km
!! Supercharger torsional coupler wears out

The Eaton Roots supercharger torsional coupler breaks apart. The rattling sounds like gravel in the supercharger at idle and disappears under load. Land Rover TSB available. Typical failure around 90,000–110,000 km.

Symptoms: Rattling from supercharger at idle, decreasing supercharger output, power drop

800–2,500 € from 90,000 km
!! Water pump wear from 80,000 km

The AJ126 water pump typically fails around 80,000 km. Since the supercharger must be removed for the job (12 hours labour), it makes sense to replace the coolant pipes and thermostat at the same time.

Symptoms: Coolant loss, tendency to overheat, noise from the water pump, coolant low warning

1,500–3,000 € from 85,000 km

Vehicle Weaknesses 9

!! Suspension Air suspension compressor failure

The air suspension compressor is the Achilles heel of the L319. Leaking air springs or valve blocks overload it until it fails. Early models with the Hitachi compressor are particularly vulnerable.

400–1,200 € from 100,000 km
!! Suspension Air springs porous and leaking

Air springs on the front and rear axle become porous after 8–12 years. Air escapes slowly β€” vehicle sags after standing. Ignoring this damages the compressor and valve block.

500–2,000 € from 120,000 km
!! Rust Brake pipes corrode and swell

Brake pipes corrode from the inside due to road salt and unfavourable clip mounting. Swelling pipes restrict brake flow or burst. Safety-critical and MOT-relevant.

200–1,000 € from 120,000 km
!! Electronics Tailgate will not open β€” actuator failed

The electric actuator for the inner tailgate breaks β€” the Bowden cable connector typically snaps. Tailgate can no longer be opened. Actuator (FUG500010) is inexpensive and readily available.

50–300 € from 100,000 km
!! Body Sunroof drain blocked, water in footwell

Sunroof drain hoses become blocked at the A-pillar or kink. Rainwater runs into the interior β€” often into the passenger footwell. Well-known issue with a Land Rover service bulletin.

0–200 € from 80,000 km
!! Suspension Front control arms and bushes worn

Front lower control arms and anti-roll bar bushes wear and produce knocking and clunking at low speed. Wheel alignment wanders.

250–700 € from 90,000 km
!! Brakes Handbrake seizes β€” shoe drum and cable

The handbrake system with its separate drum rusts and seizes, particularly when the vehicle has been left with the handbrake on for an extended period. Cables snap, shoes weld themselves to the drum.

250–1,400 € from 100,000 km
!! Steering Steering rack leaking β€” power steering fluid loss

The hydraulic steering rack loses power steering fluid through leaking seals. Oil traces visible under the vehicle, steering becomes heavier, pump noise increases.

400–1,500 € from 120,000 km
! Suspension Rear anti-roll bar bushes and drop links worn

Rear anti-roll bar bushes and drop links wear and cause clunking and vague cornering. Typical symptom after 80,000–120,000 km.

100–500 € from 90,000 km
