– Be Careful
Engine 330A1000 – Be Careful 3,220–8,890 $

Euro 6 variant of the 1.3 MultiJet with reduced power and optimised exhaust aftertreatment. Timing chain instead of belt on late versions, but check chain tensioner and EGR valve.

Fun Factor? Decent

Dependable diesel

57 kW MultiJet2 is enough for relaxed city driving — an honest everyday workhorse.

Engine Weaknesses 3

!! DPF regeneration problems

DPF blockage is the most common problem on the newer 1.3 MultiJet generation. Short trips prevent automatic regeneration; a forced regeneration or replacement becomes necessary.

Symptoms: DPF warning light, power loss, rising oil level, limp mode

330–1,650 $ from 70,000 km
!! Timing chain noise

Even on the updated 1.3 MultiJet 330A1000, chain tensioner wear and chain noise can occur. Early replacement prevents more costly consequential damage.

Symptoms: Rattling on cold start, chain noise at low revs

550–1,650 $ from 120,000 km
! EGR valve blocked

The EGR valve blocks from carbon deposits and must be cleaned or replaced. Regular cleaning every 60,000 km recommended.

Symptoms: Judder, fault code P0401, rough idle

110–550 $ from 70,000 km

Vehicle Weaknesses 8

!! Steering Electric steering column creaks and fails

EPS steering column module develops creaking and can fail completely. Lancia/Fiat has offered goodwill arrangements for affected vehicles up to 100,000 km.

880–1,650 $ from 80,000 km
! HVAC AC compressor faulty

Magnetic clutch of the AC compressor wears out, or the compressor itself has internal damage. AC no longer cools or makes noises when switched on.

440–880 $ from 90,000 km
! Electronics Window regulator faulty

Window regulator mechanism or motor fails — same problem as the predecessor 843. Window jams or drops into the door.

140–330 $ from 75,000 km
! Suspension Shock absorbers wear prematurely

Shock absorbers show wear from around 80,000–100,000 km and are flagged at MOT. Replacement parts are available, but supply is limited for some variants.

220–550 $ from 90,000 km
! Brakes Rear drum brakes wear and go oval

The rear drum brakes tend to go oval, especially with intermittent use. Brake shoes wear unevenly. Regular inspection from 60,000 km recommended.

130–310 $ from 70,000 km
! Rust Corrosion at wheel arch edges

Corrosion can develop at the wheel arch edges on older vehicles, promoted by stone chips and inadequate paint protection. Mainly affects vehicles in regions with heavy salt use.

330–880 $ from 100,000 km
i HVAC Temperature flap stuck

Temperature flap actuator motor in the heater/AC unit fails — only cold or only warm air from the vents.

90–280 $ from 80,000 km
i Interior Dashboard creaks and rattles

The dashboard develops creaking and rattling noises on older vehicles. Clip connections on trim panels work loose with age. Typical problem from around 5 years.

0–170 $ from 80,000 km
