– Be Careful
Engine DW10ATED4 – Be Careful 3,300–14,410 $

PSA HDi diesel under the Fiat designation. Proven but underpowered for the heavy van. Watch turbocharger, injectors and DPF (if retrofittable).

Fun Factor? Not Really

Sensible base diesel

Solid, economical, without any enthusiasm.

Engine Weaknesses 3

!! Turbo oil feed screen blocked

The screen in the turbocharger oil feed line can block and cut off the turbo oil supply. This design deficiency of the DW10 is well known and explains frequent turbo failures.

Symptoms: Whistling from the turbo, sudden power loss, total turbo failure if ignored

550–1,980 $ from 120,000 km
!! DPF blockage from short-trip driving

The DPF on the PSA DW10 is more sensitive than other diesel DPFs. With frequent short-trip and city driving it blocks and requires a forced regeneration or replacement.

Symptoms: Engine warning light, power loss, limp mode, rising oil level from fuel dilution

440–1,980 $ from 80,000 km
! EGR valve soot blockage

The EGR valve on the PSA DW10 clogs with soot deposits and causes fault codes and power loss. Cleaning every 60,000 km is essential with city driving.

Symptoms: Fault code P0401, judder at part load, power loss, rough idle

110–550 $ from 80,000 km

Vehicle Weaknesses 7

!! Electronics Unreliable vehicle electronics

The Phedra is packed with electronics that are unreliable. Sudden limp modes, ESP/ASR warning messages, engine stalling — often not reproducible and barely diagnosable.

330–2,200 $ from 80,000 km
!! Body Electric sliding door actuator faulty

The electric sliding doors fail — often from faulty wiring looms in the guide channel or worn actuator motors. The door can then only be opened manually.

440–1,320 $ from 100,000 km
!! Rust Rust on entry sills

Entry sills rust through. Seam rust on doors and the boot lid also appears. Factory-applied cavity sealing was inadequate.

550–2,200 $ from 100,000 km
!! HVAC AC and heating operating irregularly

The fully automatic climate control switches randomly, blows cold air when heat is set or vice versa. Often caused by ECU problems or flap actuator motors.

220–880 $ from 90,000 km
!! Cooling Coolant loss through hoses or head gasket

Coolant loss on the Phedra from failed coolant hoses or early head gasket failure. Martens frequently bite through coolant hoses. Immediate replacement required.

220–2,200 $ from 100,000 km
! Suspension Control arms worn, steering precision lost

The control arms on the Phedra wear with age and affect lane-keeping and steering precision. Replacement requires specialist knowledge as the vehicle is based on the PSA platform.

330–770 $ from 100,000 km
! Brakes ABS sensor fault message triggered by weak battery

The fault message 'brake system defective' appears sporadically, caused by a weak battery. The actual brake system is often fine.

110–330 $ from 80,000 km
