Kia 2.2 CRDi AWD
Latest generation of the 2.2-litre diesel with full Euro 6d exhaust system. SCR technology and optimised DPF for lowest emissions — check AdBlue level regularly.
Diesel GT — Stinger with frugal character
200 hp Euro 6d diesel in the Stinger CK delivers gran turismo feeling with low fuel consumption. An unusual combination that convinces on long runs.
Engine Weaknesses 4
As with the Stinger petrol engine G6DP, the D4HK 2.2 diesel's turbo oil supply is also a critical point. Delayed oil changes and sustained high-load operation without cool-down time promote premature turbo bearing wear.
Symptoms: Turbo noise, power loss, blue smoke from exhaust, oil pressure warning
The D4HK 2.2 CRDi in the Stinger shares the EGR problems of the D4HB diesel family. Spirited driving helps delay EGR contamination through higher exhaust temperatures; pure urban use accelerates blockage.
Symptoms: Engine warning light EGR fault, judder at low load, reduced performance
The new Euro 6d diesel D4HK is prone to DPF blockage in frequent urban use like its predecessors. Frequent short trips prevent complete regeneration cycles.
Symptoms: DPF warning light, power drop, increased fuel consumption, limp-home mode.
The extensive exhaust gas recirculation system of the Euro 6d diesel is prone to carbonisation, especially with predominantly short-trip use. Few cases documented yet due to low vehicle age.
Symptoms: Power reduction, fault code P0401/P0404, judder at low load.
Vehicle Weaknesses 6
Damage to the wiring harness in the engine bay can cause contact with components and vehicle fire. The ABS/ESP unit can also cause a short circuit. Affected: vehicles up to model year 2018.
Brake discs can start to judder after just a few thousand kilometres, especially if the bedding-in period was not observed correctly. On the powerful 3.3 T-GDI with Brembo brakes, the phenomenon occurs more frequently.
Headlamps on the Stinger CK tend to develop condensation inside, especially after rain or cleaning. Fogged-up headlamps can impair light output and MOT pass.
On the Kia Stinger CK, multiple owners report squealing steering noises in cold weather that sound like rubber-on-rubber friction. The noise usually disappears once the vehicle warms up.
On the Kia Stinger CK, occasional infotainment system failures occur, including a blue screen on the reversing camera and Apple CarPlay dropouts. Software updates usually resolve the issue temporarily.
A rattling tailgate is a known comfort issue on the Stinger CK. The tailgate rubber buffers can be adjusted to eliminate the noise.
