Vehicle Weaknesses 5
39,606 Soul EV vehicles worldwide (including 11,760 in Germany) were recalled because the electric parking brake cannot be activated when the vehicle is ready to drive. The vehicle may roll unintentionally when the gear selector is in P.
Kia recalled approx. 23,000 Soul EV because the battery management system (BMS) does not reliably detect short circuits in the high-voltage battery. A short circuit between anode and cathode can cause a thermal event (fire).
Multiple Soul SK3 EV owners report GPS and navigation system failures within the first year of use. The complete media unit (radio/touchscreen) sometimes needs replacing twice; delivery times up to 4 months.
Soul EV drivers who brake primarily via recuperation rarely use the mechanical rear brakes. The discs then develop heavy rust, causing squealing and vibrations on the first mechanical braking event.
The electrically operated charge port flap can fail, making the charging connector inaccessible. The problem also occurs on the Niro and Kona and is considered a design weakness of the model range.
