170 hp EV6 entry level with rear-wheel drive β ideal for city driving and commuting. Not a sports car, but a genuine step into an electric future.
Engine Weaknesses 3
The integrated charging control unit (ICCU) on the EV6 can fail due to internal moisture and thermal cycling, after which the 12V onboard battery is no longer charged. The vehicle gradually loses all electrical systems and comes to a standstill.
Symptoms: Warning chimes and dashboard warning lights, gradual loss of drive power, lights and hazard flashers fail, vehicle comes to a standstill.
Kia recalls 19,078 EV6 vehicles in Germany (built April 2021 β February 2024). A defective ICCU can no longer charge the 12V battery, which can lead to a complete vehicle standstill.
Symptoms: Gradual power reduction, warning lights, in the worst case complete standstill without hazard flashers or lighting.
The 58 kWh EV6 also shows the same standby power demand as the 77 kWh variant. Continuous control unit activity during extended parking drains the 12V battery, often within a few weeks.
Symptoms: Vehicle won't start after extended parking, 12V battery warning, infotainment non-functional
Vehicle Weaknesses 6
The integrated charge control unit (ICCU) charges the 12V starter battery incorrectly, which can cause the vehicle to stall. Recall for approx. 19,078 vehicles in Germany (production April 2021 to February 2024). Software update or ICCU replacement.
Even after the ICCU recall, EV6 drivers report a flat 12V battery after extended periods of inactivity. An infotainment system crash prevents a complete shutdown and drains the battery.
On the Kia EV6 CV, leaking expansion valves have been documented that cause complete AC failure. Refrigerant loss becomes apparent through lack of cooling and heating.
The EV6's infotainment system occasionally freezes or reboots. Known link to 12V battery problems. Kia provides regular OTA updates.
On the Kia EV6 CV, rumbling suspension noises occur at the front when the vehicle rolls on poor road surfaces. The cause is often loose suspension bolts or dust boots.
On the Kia EV6 CV, the headliner creaks in the area of the B-pillar above the driver's door, particularly when the body flexes on uneven surfaces. Multiple forum members report the same symptom.
