The G6BA is a DOHC interference engine with a timing belt. A belt failure inevitably destroys the valvetrain on both cylinder heads. The 90,000 km / 6-year service interval is frequently exceeded on used vehicles.
Symptoms: Sudden engine cutout without warning, no restart possible. After the break, engine noise is typical on attempted start.
The belt-driven water pump on the 2.7L V6 leaks at the shaft seal. Coolant can drip onto the timing belt and trigger belt failure. Preventive replacement at every belt service is mandatory.
Symptoms: Coolant loss without external leak, coolant staining in the timing belt area, risk of overheating.
The G6BA 2.7L V6 uses a timing belt with a service interval of 90,000–120,000 km. Missing this service risks belt failure and total engine destruction through valve contact — service history is often unverifiable on used vehicles.
Symptoms: Engine stall without warning, no restart, dull impacts on cranking attempt, severely damaged valves
Camshaft seals in the G6BA harden and allow oil to enter the timing belt area. Once oil contacts the belt, immediate replacement is required. A typical weak point on all 2.7L V6 engines.
Symptoms: Oil on the timing belt cover, oil staining in the belt area, occasional oil smell from the engine bay.
The G6BA tends toward oil consumption from sticking piston rings at high mileages, typical of this engine family. Regular oil level checks between services are essential.
Symptoms: Dropping oil level between service intervals, blue smoke on acceleration from cold start.
Ignition coil failures are a known issue on the G6BA Delta V6, especially in LPG operation. The six individual coils are prone to failure and can fail repeatedly, sometimes in quick succession.
Symptoms: Misfires, stumble under load, rough running, check engine light, power loss at higher rpm
On the G6BA Delta V6, the camshaft sensor fails and causes starting problems and power loss, progressing to limp mode. Check engine light and a stored fault code are the typical warning signals.

Vehicle Weaknesses 3
Critical weakness: rear axle rusts precisely at the spring seat. Control arms and trailing arms cost around 500 € per side. In Germany partially covered by Hyundai recall/goodwill.
ABS sensor rings on the axles corrode and break. Broken segments migrate and trigger severe pedal kickback and ABS activation just before standstill.
Front strut top mounts wear prematurely on the Trajet — up to three replacements may be needed by 127,000 km. Components are undersized for the vehicle weight.
