The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) can be damaged by electrical overload and no longer charge the 12V battery. The vehicle progressively loses all electrical functions while driving.
Symptoms: Dashboard warnings and beeping, progressive power loss, vehicle enters emergency mode, 12V battery not charging.
The ICCU (Integrated Charging Control Unit) of the E-GMP platform is a systemic weak point: defective transistors/MOSFETs or software faults cause the 12V battery to no longer be charged. Typical failure pattern: vehicle loses power progressively while driving.
Symptoms: Warning 'Limited power', fault code P1A9096, 12V battery flat, vehicle no longer driveable
Defective heat treatment by a supplier led to driveshafts on the Ioniq 5 and 6 (production 2021–2023) that could break. Recall 41D022 affected 155,760 vehicles worldwide, including 46,604 in Germany.
Symptoms: Sudden loss of drive, noises from drivetrain, vehicle coasts to a stop
Third-party Bluelink apps can trigger up to 5,000 server requests per day, constantly waking the vehicle. The 12V battery drains within hours. Hyundai has limited server traffic to 20 requests per day.
Symptoms: Vehicle completely dead after a short standstill, no remote unlocking, no start, jump-start required.
Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 occasionally show new malfunctions in recuperation strategy, regenerative braking or charging control after software updates. OTA updates can also introduce new bugs.
Symptoms: Changed recuperation behaviour after update, unexpected driver assistance interventions, occasional system reboots.
The Ioniq 5's charging flap can cause elevated quiescent current (approx. 4 A) in cold weather, draining the 12V battery within 24 hours. Replacing the charging flap resolves the issue.
Symptoms: Vehicle dead after one night of standing, especially at temperatures below 10°C, problem recurs.
The Ioniq 5/6 also suffers from the unexpected 12V drain problem known from the first Ioniq. Control units do not reliably enter standby mode and drain the auxiliary battery.
Symptoms: Vehicle won't start in the morning, system reset required, all warning lights on

Drive shafts can break and cause complete drivetrain failure. 155,760 vehicles worldwide affected (Ioniq 5 and 6, model years 2021–2023), including 46,604 in Germany. Recall code 41D022, KBA ref 13860.
The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) can fail and no longer charge the 12V battery. Power loss while driving follows. Several recall actions known; ICCU replacement often takes weeks due to supply shortages.
A loose screw connection on the HV cable connector near the CCS port can completely disable DC fast charging. In winter charging power drops to 45–55 kW instead of 220 kW.

The Integrated Charging Control Unit (ICCU) overcharges the 12-volt battery with up to 14.7V and permanently damages it. When the ICCU fails the vehicle cannot be started; Hyundai has initiated multiple worldwide recalls.
The large 12-inch display on the Ioniq 5 occasionally freezes or responds slowly. Software updates bring some improvement; the issue is widely known.
Exterior B-pillar trims on the Ioniq 5 NE detach due to inadequate adhesive bonding. Documented multiple times in collective fault threads; dealer replaces under warranty.
The centre rear seat of the Ioniq 5 NE shows as permanently occupied even when empty. Affects seatbelt warning and seat load detection. Reported multiple times on the Goingelectric forum.
Connecting devices to the Ioniq 5's 230V interior socket triggers the 'Check BEV electrical system' error. The cause lies in the V2L unit control logic; a software update resolves the issue.
