Honda Ridgeline · SUV
3.5L V6 without cylinder deactivation — the more reliable Odyssey engine. VTEC, 255 hp. Timing belt every 100k mi (interference!). EGR valve clogs regularly. No VCM = no oil consumption disaster.
V6 Workhorse Without Drama
186 kW V6 in the Ridgeline YK1 is a relaxed workhorse. No sports car feel, but solid towing capacity and refined engine manners. VTM-4 AWD works reliably in everyday use.
Engine Weaknesses 3
Belt every 100k mi. Interference engine = catastrophic if it snaps.
Symptoms: No symptoms — broken belt = engine damage
Clutch/bearing wears. Especially 2005-2007.
Symptoms: A/C stops cooling, clicking when engaged
EGR ports clog with carbon. Common on all J35A engines.
Symptoms: Check engine P0401, slightly increased consumption
Vehicle Weaknesses 5
1st-gen Ridgeline (YK1) affected by Takata mass recall. Inflators can rupture on deployment, sending metal fragments toward occupants.
At high mileage (125,000+ miles) rod bearings and head gasket can fail — especially with neglected oil changes.
Variable Torque Management AWD system transfers too much torque to rear in tight low-speed turns — causing judder and tire scrub.
J35-era A/C compressor fails after 60,000-100,000 miles. Metal shavings can contaminate the entire refrigerant circuit.
Clear coat peels from roof, hood, and doors. Particularly common on 2006-2008 model years — Honda used thin factory clear coat.
