Honda Jazz
1.5L VTEC Turbo in the ZR-V (2023+), structurally related to the L15B family. Oil dilution on short trips largely addressed through software updates. Steering rack recall exists.
Loud and Uninspiring
100 hp in the Jazz GK: too loud in city traffic, rattly under load. Noise is the main problem. Drives like a fuel economy instrument, not like a car.
Engine Weaknesses 3
On short trips in cold weather, fuel can enter the engine oil and raise the oil level. Honda extended warranties and rolled out software updates. Check oil level regularly.
Symptoms: Oil level rises above maximum after short winter trips, petrol smell on dipstick
Honda recalled ZR-V, CR-V, and Civic with 1.5T due to inadequately lubricated steering gear. In the worst case, steering failure is possible.
Symptoms: Heavy or unexpected steering movements, steering feels unusually sluggish
Direct injection can lead to carbon deposits on intake valves over time. Honda incorporated design countermeasures, but a residual risk remains at high mileage.
Symptoms: Hesitation at part throttle in the mid-range, slight power loss at high mileage
Vehicle Weaknesses 5
Early GK models may be affected by the Takata airbag issue. Honda changed supplier in the interim; affected vehicles must return to a workshop.
The air conditioning repeatedly fails due to condenser defects. Several owners report complete A/C failure attributable to a leaking or defective condenser.
The rear brakes also tend to rust and seize in the third Jazz generation, particularly on vehicles used predominantly in the city with low mileage.
On the third Jazz, dipped beam failures are documented. According to reports, the issue is comparatively straightforward and inexpensive to fix at a workshop.
Owners report creaking and rattling noises inside the cabin at higher mileage, especially when driving on uneven roads. Typical of the plastic trim.
