Ford Maverick
2.5L Atkinson hybrid as the STANDARD engine in the Maverick — unique in the pickup segment. Hybrid is the base motor (not an upgrade!). 162 hp system output, eCVT, FWD. Ideal for city commuters and light duty. HV battery loses range in extreme cold (normal). Electric coolant pump as long-term wear item.
Maverick Hybrid — 40 mpg in a pickup, and the promise actually holds
162 hp hybrid as STANDARD engine: unique in the pickup segment. 40 mpg city — and it's actually true (owners report 40.7 mpg after one year). Not an off-roader, not a hauler, not a real truck — a city pickup for people who want a bed but don't need an F-150. FWD-only on hybrid (AWD only with EcoBoost). Community unusually positive: even critics end with "would buy again." 20+ NHTSA recalls on the 2022 — teething issues. Interior plastic scratches easily.
Engine Weaknesses 4
Hybrid coolant pump as long-term wear item.
Symptoms: Overheating warning, coolant loss
The HF45 eCVT in the Maverick Hybrid shows shudder when transitioning between electric and ICE drive, and when braking below 15 mph. TSB 23-2209 and recall 24V-330 address software and hardware aspects. Torsional damper and CV axle can be root causes.
Symptoms: Judder on acceleration, vibration at 25-45 mph, shaking when braking below 15 mph
BCM/PCM software cannot detect declining 12V battery performance in time. Vehicle may fail to restart after auto stop/start or stall when slowing to a stop. Ford recall 24S24: free BCM/PCM calibration update.
Symptoms: No restart after auto-stop, engine stalls when coasting to a stop
Normal behavior below 14°F, but unexpected for buyers. Not a defect.
Symptoms: Reduced electric range in winter
Vehicle Weaknesses 2
Lock mechanism corrodes in humid climates.
Modem timeout, app connection drops. OTA update available.
