Cadillac XT6
3.6L V6 with direct injection and variable valve timing โ the most refined iteration of GM's 3.6 family. 310-335 hp depending on calibration. Timing chain issues from earlier versions (LLT/LFX) largely resolved. Water pump remains a known wear item past 80k miles. Thermostat housing prone to cracking. Oil consumption possible at higher mileage but less frequent than predecessors. Solid daily driver with adequate power reserves.
Three-row V6 โ family and power
314 hp in a three-row SUV handles everything a family needs. The LGX works quietly and reliably. The 9-speed auto had teething issues in 2020-2021 models โ significantly improved from 2022 onward.
Engine Weaknesses 3
Internal water pump fails past 80k miles โ difficult access means high labor cost. Coolant loss leading to overheating if not caught early.
Symptoms: Coolant warning, temperature rise, coolant loss, sweet smell in engine bay
Plastic thermostat housing develops cracks โ slow coolant leak. Typical past 60k miles. Housing replacement is relatively straightforward.
Symptoms: Slow coolant loss, drips under vehicle, intermittent temperature warning
Piston rings let oil past at higher mileage โ less frequent than LLT/LFX predecessors but documented past 75k miles. Check oil level regularly.
Symptoms: Dropping oil level between changes, slight blue smoke under load
Vehicle Weaknesses 4
Accumulator in 9-speed transmission can fail โ transmission falls into limp mode. Recall with free valve body replacement.
GM 9T65 automatic develops shudder at low speeds โ primarily 2020-2021 model years. Transmission fluid flush or torque converter replacement required.
LGX 3.6L V6 consumes up to 1 quart per 1,000-1,500 miles in affected units. Worn piston rings or valve stem seals. GM revised piston rings in 2023 models.
Infotainment display goes black or freezes, especially in cold weather. GM issued a software update service bulletin.
