DAUB 3.0L TDI V6 344 hp Automatic All-wheel drive 2019–2024
βœ– Stay Away!
Engine DAUB βœ– Stay Away! 12,300–42,700 €

Audi 3.0 TDI V6 with 344 PS (253 kW) in the S6 C8 and S7 C8. Mild hybrid system with 48V belt starter-generator. Electric compressor for instant boost pressure. Very powerful diesel sports engine with low consumption around 7L/100km.

Fun Factor? Fun to Drive!

V6 S7 β€” same V8-shaped hole, now in a Sportback

Same V6+48V controversy as the S6 C8, wrapped in a Sportback body. The prettier shell can't mask the V8 void. Love the silhouette but need the V8 sound: buy a used C7, not a new C8.

Engine Weaknesses 5

!! Camshaft fracture from material defect

In the 3.0 TDI EA897 camshafts fracture due to material defects β€” affecting all four camshafts of the V6. A fracture inevitably causes engine damage. Audi acknowledged the issue via TPI 2043172.

Symptoms: Ticking or knocking engine noises beyond normal diesel sounds, then power loss and engine failure

3,500–20,000 € from 80,000 km
!! Timing chain elongation β€” catastrophic engine damage possible

The 3.0 TDI is prone to timing chain elongation and tensioner wear. A chain jump causes pistons and valves to collide, causing total engine damage. Replacement requires 15–20 labour hours.

Symptoms: Rattling or knocking on cold start and under load, engine stumbling, warning light

2,500–4,500 € from 120,000 km
!! Soot deposits on injectors

Diesel-typical soot formation on the 3.0 TDI injectors leads to injection problems and increased wear. Fuel additives and premium diesel can delay the need for cleaning.

Symptoms: Rough idle, increased consumption, hesitation under load, power loss at higher rpm

800–2,500 € from 150,000 km
!! Dual-mass flywheel worn

The 3.0 TDI dual-mass flywheel wears faster under high torque, especially with frequent city driving and low-rpm operation. Replacement is cost-intensive.

Symptoms: Dull clunking noises on take-off and gear changes, vibrations at idle, rough running when lifting off the throttle

1,200–2,500 € from 130,000 km
!! DPF clogging from short-trip use

The 3.0 TDI diesel particulate filter clogs with frequent short-trip use as the regeneration temperature is not reached. After software updates the DPF loading was sometimes increased.

Symptoms: Power loss, increased consumption, limp mode, DPF warning light, increased oil dilution smell

1,500–3,500 € from 100,000 km

Vehicle Weaknesses 4

!! Electronics Air suspension: ride height sensor fault

On the S7 4K, defective ride height sensors in the air suspension are reported, causing system fault messages. Usually individual sensors that need replacing.

200–1,200 € from 60,000 km
!! Electronics 48V mild-hybrid system fault

The 48V mild-hybrid system with belt-driven starter-generator is a potential weak point in the S7 4K. Audi granted a 7-year extended warranty on the BSG, which is telling.

1,500–4,000 € from 80,000 km
! Electronics MMI and driver assistance system faults

S7 4K drivers report sporadic fault messages from driver assistance systems, gearbox faults and drivetrain warnings, particularly at speeds above 180 km/h. Software updates resolve many issues.

200–2,000 €
! Brakes High-performance brakes: expensive to maintain

The S7 4K's braking system is sized for 450 hp and dimensioned accordingly. Front brake disc and pad replacement is expensive.

900–2,500 € from 40,000 km
