CASA 3.0L TDI V6 240 hp Automatic All-wheel drive 2010–2015
– Be Careful
Engine CASA – Be Careful 10,150–27,700 €

Revised V6 diesel with 176 kW after model update. Improved emissions treatment and more torque. Robust long-distance engine.

Fun Factor? Not Really

Anxiety engine β€” costly failure looming

239 hp 3.0L with a known problem: timing chain stretch and guide rail breakage. The risk of expensive repairs overshadows any driving pleasure.

Engine Weaknesses 5

!! Timing Chain Wear and Guide Rail Breakage

Like all early 3.0 TDI engines, the CASA shows typical timing chain wear. Rattling noises at cold start and during load changes indicate a stretched chain or faulty tensioners. Repair requires 15–20 labour hours.

Symptoms: Rattling or slapping at cold start, load-change noises, engine warning light, timing chain fault codes

2,000–3,500 € from 150,000 km
!! Injectors and Fuel Pressure Loss

On the CASA in the Q7, cases have been documented where all 6 injectors needed replacement. Fault messages for low fuel rail pressure despite injector replacement point to high-pressure pump problems.

Symptoms: Fuel pressure fault message, difficult starting, engine misfires, elevated fuel consumption

1,500–4,500 € from 130,000 km
!! Dual-Mass Flywheel Wear

The dual-mass flywheel (DMF) on the 3.0 TDI CASA wears from the high diesel torque. Typically around 150,000 km, often replaced together with the clutch. DMF part cost approx. €500–800, plus 5 hours labour.

Symptoms: Droning and rattling in the drivetrain, vibrations, juddering when pulling away, load-change vibrations

900–2,200 € from 150,000 km
!! Diesel Particulate Filter Blockage

The DPF on the CASA cannot regenerate sufficiently with frequent short-trip driving and becomes blocked. In the Q7 with its heavy weight and all-wheel drive, fuel consumption and soot load are particularly high.

Symptoms: DPF warning in the instrument cluster, power reduction, elevated fuel consumption, soot smell

500–2,500 € from 80,000 km
! EGR Valve Failure and Recall

The EGR system on the CASA has issues. Audi issued a recall for Q7 models from 2010–2017 due to EGR and thermal window problems. EGR coolers can also become blocked.

Symptoms: Power loss, elevated fuel consumption, juddering under load, EGR system fault code

300–900 € from 100,000 km

Vehicle Weaknesses 5

!! Suspension Air Suspension: Compressor and Air Bag Failures

Air bags become porous, the WABCO compressor overheats and fails. The rear axle typically drops first. Full repairs regularly cost 2,000–3,500 €.

800–3,500 € from 100,000 km
!! Other 3.0 TDI Timing Chain: Elongation and Engine Damage Risk

The 3.0 TDI timing chain sits on the gearbox side and can elongate from 120,000 km. Engine and gearbox must be separated β€” cost 3,500–8,000 €. Chain jumping means total engine damage.

3,500–8,000 € from 130,000 km
!! Brakes Brakes: Excessive Wear Due to Vehicle Weight

The vehicle weight of over 2.3 tonnes leads to heavily elevated brake wear. Pad wear as early as 22,000 km in urban traffic documented. Front disc and pad change costs up to 1,600 €.

450–1,600 € from 50,000 km
!! Body Panoramic Roof: Blocked Drainage and Water Ingress

The panoramic roof drainage channels block with leaves and dirt. Water runs down the A-pillar to the fuse box and can damage electronics.

50–500 € from 80,000 km
! Electronics Keyless Entry Antennas in Door Handles Failed

The keyless entry receiver antennas sit in the door handles and fail due to moisture and thermal expansion. Vehicle can only be opened with mechanical key.

150–500 € from 80,000 km
