Audi RS6 Avant Performance

DJTB 4.0L TFSI V8 BiTurbo 630 hp Automatic All-wheel drive Wagon 2023–2024
– Be Careful
Engine DJTB – Be Careful 12,150–51,800 €

Performance variant of the C8 4.0 TFSI with 630 PS — 30 PS more than the DCSA through sharper turbos and more aggressive mapping. Owners describe the jump from C8 to C8 Performance as dramatic: 'a different beast, too quick'. The oil strainer issue from the CWUB/CRDB is resolved in the DJTB through a redesigned strainer. The OPF remains, but the Performance exhaust with larger tailpipes and active valves delivers somewhat more volume than the standard C8. Rear-wheel steering standard — it makes the over 2.1-tonne estate surprisingly agile in tight corners.

Fun Factor? Legendary!

600 hp wide-body icon — Instagram star with real substance

Most aggressive RS6 ever: wide body, 600 hp, MHEV. Social media darling that actually delivers. Quieter and more comfortable than the C7 — which bothers purists and delights daily drivers. Running costs at supercar level. Want less attention and more character: buy a used C7 Performance.

Engine Weaknesses 10

!! Turbocharger Bearings — Thermal Stress in V-Position

The turbos sit in the hot V-space between the cylinder banks, which leads to elevated thermal stress. With spirited use or insufficient post-run cooldown times, increased bearing wear results.

Symptoms: Whistling, oil burning (blue smoke), power loss at high rpm

3,000–10,000 € from 120,000 km
!! Turbocharger Oil Supply — Strainer and Drain Lines

Even on the performance DJTB, the oil supply to the Hot-V turbos remains critical. Revised oil strainer (079115175G) must be fitted. Drain lines tend to coking under high-performance use.

Symptoms: Turbo whistling, power loss after extended full-throttle phase, blue smoke after shutdown, oil in charge air area

500–12,000 € from 100,000 km
!! 48V Electrical System and Mild Hybrid Components Fault-Prone

The DJTB (RS6 C8, RS7 C8, RS Q8) shows failures in the 48-volt system. Reports confirm defects at 20,000–70,000 km in batches, sometimes multiple vehicles at the same workshop simultaneously.

Symptoms: Electrical system warnings, power reduction, mild hybrid system fault, service warning light

1,500–5,000 € from 40,000 km
!! Crankcase Ventilation Defective

Even on the revised DJTB, the known crankcase ventilation defect occurs, directing oil into the intake and causing combustion disruptions. The engine shares this issue with its predecessor DCSA.

Symptoms: Blue smoke, increased oil consumption, rough running, misfires

300–900 € from 80,000 km
!! Electric Water Pump Failure

The auxiliary electric water pump for post-run turbo cooling can fail and lead to overheating damage to the turbocharger. Known from the EA825 engine family.

Symptoms: Temperature rise after engine shutdown, turbo noises after extended operation, coolant warning light

400–1,200 € from 70,000 km
!! Spark Plugs — Extreme Wear at 463–471 kW

The performance unit at 463–471 kW stresses spark plugs and ignition coils more severely than the base version. Hot-V position restricts access; short replacement interval (30,000 km) recommended for regular high-performance use.

Symptoms: Stumbling and misfires especially on cold start, engine warning light, reduced power output, carbon deposits on spark plugs

350–900 € from 35,000 km
!! Crankcase Ventilation — High-Load-Induced Failure

The DJTB crankcase ventilation is particularly at risk from high-load operation. The oil separator membrane tears from permanently high housing pressures; the result is oil entry into the intake tract and turbochargers.

Symptoms: Increased oil consumption, oil film in intake system and intercoolers, black soot film on air filter insert

600–2,000 € from 80,000 km
!! 48V RSG — Mild Hybrid Failure Also on Performance Models

The revised RSG (4N1 903 028) remains vulnerable. Moisture ingress and thermal cycling cause short circuits. When it fails, the vehicle deactivates mild hybrid operation; complete voltage failure possible.

Symptoms: 48V warning indicator, start-stop deactivated, electrical system warning, in severe cases vehicle will not start or shuts down while driving

2,500–6,000 € from 50,000 km
!! ZF8HP — High Torque Converter Load at 850 Nm

The performance model with up to 850 Nm stresses the ZF8HP at its limit. Regular ATF change every 50,000 km is essential. Torque converter lock-up clutch wears with aggressive driving.

Symptoms: Vibration at shift point, delayed shift response in Sport mode, gearbox oil discoloured black with long overdue interval

2,500–7,000 € from 120,000 km
! CoD Cylinder Deactivation Unstable

The DJTB Cylinder-on-Demand (CoD) system can cause misfires when switching between 4 and 8 cylinder operation. Audi software updates only partially address the issue.

Symptoms: Stumbling during cylinder switching, engine stumbling under partial load, MIL

200–700 € from 50,000 km

Vehicle Weaknesses 6

!! Other Recall: Panoramic Roof Can Detach

Contamination of the bonding surface during manufacture can cause the rear panoramic roof module to detach. Affects A6 models produced in 2018.

0–0 €
!! Other Recall: Panoramic Roof Bonding Defective

On the A6 Avant (MY 2018), the rear glass panel of the panoramic roof was incorrectly bonded. Audi recalled 1,435 vehicles in Germany. Creaking/scraping noises and water ingress are further known issues with the panoramic roof.

0–2,500 €
!! Suspension Control Arm–Wheel Carrier Play — Tracking Issue

Stress corrosion cracking can cause excessive play between the control arm and wheel carrier on the A6 C8 (MY 2019–2021), impairing driving stability. Recall by KBA (action 42L1), free repair at dealer.

0–1,500 €
!! Other Recall: PHEV Battery Overheating Risk During Charging

High-voltage battery cell modules on A6, A7, Q5 PHEV models can overheat during charging (KBA 15722R / code 93AD). 53,449 vehicles worldwide, 17,012 in Germany affected (production period 08/2019–08/2024). Software update takes approx. 60 minutes.

0–0 €
! Electronics MMI Touchscreen: Crashes and Connectivity Issues

The MMI infotainment system stands out for frozen displays, unexpected reboots and Apple CarPlay/Android Auto failures. Software updates only partially resolve the problem.

200–1,500 €
! Body Water Ingress Through Leaking Wheel Arch

On some A6 C8s, water enters through a leaking wheel arch liner, causing musty smells and moisture in the footwell or boot.

100–600 €
