On the 105 hp BLS individual con-rod bearing failures occur due to material defects. The knocking noise starts quietly but quickly escalates to severe engine damage.

BLS engines from model year 2008 have a known con-rod bearing defect. The connecting rod can punch through the engine block without warning β€” total loss. Other build years are unaffected.
