Acura MDX
Honda J35 V6, workhorse of the Acura fleet. Runs solid when VCM is disabled or dead. Variable Cylinder Management causes progressive oil consumption from ring wear โ a VCM disabler or oil catch can is the community's standard countermeasure.
Nine gears that don't always find the right one

Symptoms: Sudden engine stall during driving, hard start or no-start, power loss during acceleration
Vehicle Weaknesses 3
ZF 9HP nine-speed automatic shifts erratically, hesitates on downshifts, and hunts for gears at low speed. Software updates improve but don't fully resolve.
Clear coat peels particularly on White Diamond Pearl color. Roof, hood, and tailgate affected first. Acura resisted goodwill claims for years.
Taillight seal fails, moisture enters and corrodes LED modules. Recall 19V256 covers replacement.
